i have just got a little 850 watt generator for long trips does anyone know if its ok to just plug them in to the 240 volt socket to charge battery and run lights and mabe a tv ect its a bessacar 560.
not a lot of savvy with electrics so am a bit unsure of do's and donut's (sorry auto spell check)
any advice much appreciated.
thanks barrie.

Make up a short hookup cable with a 13A plug to connect to your generator and you will be able to run lights etc and charge the leisure battery. Suggest you get a surge arrester that plugs into the geni first.

Now these generators can be noisy so you need to be sensible where and how long you run it for.

Yes just plug into your hook up socket using the standard hook up cable with a 3 pin plug adapter on the end (assuming your genny has a 3 pin outlet socket). That's what I do with mine and what most people do :)

if you're not that savvy, look at your ehu hookup socket, you will see the 3 prongs sticking out making it a MALE plug.so you need a socket with 3 holes and no visible metal, making it a FEMALE socket. very important distinction !your generator will have a normal household type square pin socket or more likely a blue FEMALE socket, either way the MALE plug goes on the genny end of the cable.not being patronising, just being clear i hope

Yes, it should only fit together one way in any case. Basically the live side of the connection (with adapter on or not) (ie Genny or 240v hook up side) should only ever end in a female socket (holes rather than pins)
