Generators that can be installed under campervan

I'm a bit of a gamer, nothing cutting edge but need something with a bit more processing power than most laptops. I replaced my laptop recently and as I spend most of my time in the van, power consumption comes into the equation. I use the laptop not just for gaming but as a general home entertainment centre from television, radio, browsing etc so it's running for a good 8 hours a day. I was stunned to see the power consumption figures on some of the higher end gaming laptops some running at 6-7 amps at 19 volts, which would require a rooftop of solar to run for any period of time. I've had to settle for a lower spec machine with onboard graphics etc, still relatively high due to the 17" screen but I now have a decent mid spec machine that I can keep going with the solar I've got.

6-7A @ 19v. Not bad at all 120W, you probably find that this is only occurs when the lappie is running
at maximum performance output, the average figure will be much less, probably no more than
75W. You need to work it out as kW/hours over say a days usage.

Still if an expensive but powerful laptop negates having to purchase a generator just to power up
a cheaper higher power consuming set up then I know which I would pick.

However the OP wants to power an a/c unit and that's the fly in the ointment, if you have to
have the generator to power that, then you might as well get the cheaper desktop or whatever.
When the a/c isn't required then the generator may only be powering a laptop or desktop!!
Other electric power sources may have to be considered.

External generator on Hymer B694

We have an external generator which is mounted in a protected tray on the right side of the vehicle. Professional fitting before we bought the van. Works well and can be run for quite a few hours if necessary and not in a campsite. We use it if parked a few days and needing a EHU. I can find the name but it is a lot of years old. Good luck with the venture, we certainly enjoy the use of it.
Growlie.
