Hi, As its getting bl**dy cold here in the UK, I want to switch my gas setup from butane to propane PDQ. At the mo my system is all set up for Campingaz, 907 bottles which I run off a cylinder adaptor like this;

Hamiltons Gas Products Ltd Campingaz Cylinder Adaptor

Question is will I need a separate propane regulator like this one; ha344.jpg

or will my butane regulator cope. I know that they run at different mbar, propane being 37 mbar, and butane 28 mbar, but I dont want to keep messing around with jubilee clips etc everytime I have to change a bottle.I still intend to keep my Campingaz bottles as a reserve, and for when the weathers not so cold.

My question is I have met several folk who say the use the same regulator for both propane and butane without any problems or decrease in performance, has any one got any experience?

Thanks in advance!

Yes you will need a propane regulator like the red one you show, if you have any butane calor gas bottles if you go to a calor gas centre they will normally change them for propane at no extra cost, but you will have to buy a new regulator.

.yes you will need a different regulator.there is an updated version of this propane regulator with a rubber seal,so that it can be tightened by hand rather than a stupid great spanner.about 6 quid in my local campshop.now do you have a regulator on your bottle at the moment or do you have a wall mounted inline regulator?

Mr Brown,
I like the sound of that, do you know who supplies these please?

Calor will change any version of a 6kg to any other version of a 6kg. They will not change anything else for a 6kg. You used to able to go to the local recycling centre and pick up the odd empty Calor Bottle but they seem to have stopped you doing this now ( elf and safety ). They blame shortages of bottles for this and the fact that all MH and Caravans seem to use them. Try local classifieds got mine from Gumtree guy was glad to see the back of them. Mind you they were rather rusty.

30 mbar regulator will do both propane and butane, furthermore reflects the current en standard

If you have a connector like the one in the link you posted it would appear that you also have a bulkhead Regulator ,as the one you show IS NOT a regulator merely a connector.and on / off valve. so the Propane Regulator you posted won't be any good as it requires a hose fitted to it secured by a jubilee clip and you would then have two regulators in line.If this is the case, { BULKHEAD REGULATOR } you will need a connection hose to the existing bulkhead regulator and the other end [Bottle ] will have either a hand wheel connection or one that requires the use of a spanner to connect to the Propane bottle, left hand thread.
In your link , if you click the arrow which is on the right of the pictures you can scroll along and you will see an item called GASLOW EASY FIT ADAPTOR priced at £12-25 ,this adaptor will screw into the Propane bottle and removing the hose from your original connector you will be able to re screw it to the new adaptor, this is only true IF YOU HAVE THE BULKHEAD REGULATOR fitted.BE CAREFUL.
