Gas low adapters for Europe

Hi

Can anyone tell me how many different adapters are needed for filling the gaslow system in Europe? And best place to buy them.

Thanks

Blobb

We carry four

UK/Spanish Bayonet.

The new Euro Adaptor.

A one that looks like a dish with a lip that we have had to use in France.

A one with a coarse thread on the outside that I have not had to use so far.

There are reports on another forum (FACTS) started yesterday that filling stations in SE France including the supermarkets are stopping people filling with LPG unless they have the GasLow type of tank/bottle fixed permanently in the van with a bolted down metal strap and use an external filler point. If you have to open the locker door they are refusing to turn on the pump.

They report that the pumps have a notice saying "Autogas not cooking gas". This is not being applied to fixed external tanks.

we've come across a problem with GPL in the South East corner of France (as of yet we don't know if it's a country-wide issue). Pulling into Leclerc and Carrefour service stations both have warnings that we can't use GPL to refill our bottles - the standard Gaslow installation. We were through France in November and there were no issues, now there are both the signs on the pumps as well as us being stopped by an attendant.

Another post

Part 2 of my somewhat limited French internet research tonight via camping-car infos.com basically tells me:

In France (also in Belgium and some other European countries) it is illegal to refill a removable gas bottle / cylinder using a service station LPG pump.

Germany makes an exception for removable gas cylinders specially adapted for refilling from LPG pumps, because gas installations in their motorhomes are subject to compulsory very strict safety checks every 2 years.

This prohibition does not apply to LPG tanks fitted permanently to a motorhome, which can be refilled using a service station LPG pump. This is regulated by EU law.

Thanks for replies...this might be a silly question but how do you know which on to use
when you pull at the pump?

You just have to look at the pump end and work out which one fits. The new Euro adaptor is supposed to eliminate this by having a standard fitting throughout Europe.

It hasn't worked yet - I've not seen one pump that uses it! But don't worry because I have found that even if you aren't carrying the adaptor that fits, the garage will unearth one for you. We've never failed to get filled up yet even though we have called at places with some pretty wierd pumps. France is fairly consistent though - they use the disc-type (as does most of Portugal). If in doubt at the pump, ask for help - you will get it.

Hi Blobb. I only have the french adaptor that screws onto the UK fitting, but in Luxemberg I filled up by asking the lady in the garage if they had the correct adaptors, she brought out a large black purpose built box full of adaptors of just about every sort, all in there premolded compartments, I think most garages will have one
