Hi guys, where do you exchange calor and campingaz bottles in Europe? Do you need to find specialist shops and will they exchange English bottles ? And likewise can you exchange the foreign bottle when back in the UK? Cheers

sorry I don't have an answer to your post but I would be interested to find out about the swapping of foreign bottles whilst in the UK. We have a left hand drive which we bought whilst living in Germany so our bottle is foreign. Also got a feeling we will need to buy new attachments. Leanne x

You can exchange campin-gaz bottles at most big camp site in Europe. You will struggle to swap Calor Gas bottles anywhere other than the UK.

Look for a 'Charity shop' usually run by ex-pats for dogs?, where you can find empty local bottles for little money €10 or so in Spain, get a reg from Carrifour, take the bottle to the local gas supplier or garage to exchange for a full one around €17.50.

Each country seems to have their own cylinders and each has a different connection . I would recommend having one of the refillable systems. I have an under slung tank. It was fitted by Autogas 2000 in Thirsk. I have the three European adapters as well. This I fill up at petrol stations and have not had any problems.

We run just off gas bottles but might just price up the cost of a refillable. Thank you.

Refillable is the way to go, generally cheaper than bottles and apart from the different filler nozzles, pretty much available all over Europe.

A set of three nozzle adaptors can be had for around £30 or so.

When we looked like running out of gas in the trailer, we rigged up a locally purchased bottle and regulator and arranged a feed in through the BBQ point.

camping gaz is readily available in supermarkets, some garages, ironmongers etc. but wherever you get it from, it's the most expensive lpg you can get

and you won't be able to swap a foreign bottle here. but some gas suppliers may give you a free bottle if you buy their gas-try Flo-gas

Cheers guys - really needing gaslow, gasit or similar but too tight to shell out on initial equipment needed !!

Had my Gas-it 2x 6kg system fitted , with all the bits and European connectors from Avon Autogas in Bristol for £427.

Quite easy to DIY as long as you are comfortable with mechanical stuff etc.

Tinley Tech sell everything in terms of tanks, fittings, pipes, regulators etc.

You cannot exchange English bottles [Calor or other] any where except the Uk, but you can pick up empty Spanish. Portuguese or other at car boots in those Countries, and get the required regulator from Hardware shops [Ferreteria ] garages and Supermarkets etc and get exchange full bottles most anywhere ie garages hardware shops and Supermarkets etc and the gas is cheap once you have an empty bottle also campsites will usually loan you a bottle and just charge for the gas you use.Gaz bottles are international and can be exchange most anywhere but it costs more per litre than other gas because of this, Spanish Repsol bottles are also interchangeable in Portugal, as a previous poster said you can put gas into your system through an external Barbi point using the correct regulator,You can also buy on E BAY an adapter to re fill your Calor bottles in Spain and Portugal but this has safety implications because bottles should only be filled to 80% of capacity for safety reasons and this is difficult to do in practice, so do it at your peril, others will say they do it all the time with no problems [YET] Refillable systems may seem expensive initially but soon pay for themselves on gas prices, the more you use the sooner you recoup your costs.

Cheers pal yeh refillable seems to be the way but initial cost bit off putting, its alot of calor bottles worth !!

I fitted a Gas it bottle on or last van, just one bottle and kept the original one on as well, with all the bits so I could turn from one to the other it cost about £155.

We found it so good to just fill up at a garage and on a trip of 8 country's and 8,500 miles we never even used the original full bottle, just kept filling the Gas it, so I think it was money well spent and saved so much messing about with different bottles.
