hi all , im still in the planning stage of the camper , lack of cash means lots of time on my hands :(
im looking into the hot water side of things at the moment and my question is , is there such a thing as a gas Calorifier?
i want to heat water from engine but also need to heat by gas when engine is not running , what would be good is if i could also preheat engine from water heater.
is this possible and is there a system available.
or how could i make one but space is very limited.

i await your ideas

My van has an Alde 2968 heat exchanger which uses the engine heat to heat the hot water.

Its not a cheap option bt the Ebespecher DW5 type heater does just the job you are looking for. Eberspacher Hydronic 5 12V Heater (D5WSC) Car Kit | eBay

hi, eber used to do petrol or diesel but both are expensive . usually not worth having if cost is limited.
i use an instantanious water heater cheapest way i know of warming water and not too difficult. other than putting a kettle on. you can get extentions of the water system to warm water in works trucks or radiators in the back like buses but all doesnt come easy .

Such hot water tanks are a standard fitment in narrow boats and are available in a wide range of configurations and capacities. I don't know if any are small enough to fit in a motorhome ...

if you can find a local sales place that the waterboard vans go to they very often have a vehicle piped system to give hand washing water.
it runs off the heater system. just means running lots of extra pipes. lots of other work type vehicles have them as well. think they also used to be marketted as the hot box . might be bad memory but it was something like that.

hi, just rang a mate tha works for our water board .it seemsin later years they use 12v electric heaters for the hot water now. but he said try your local w,board garages as they may have old units kicking around.
wont pre heat water in engine but can give water for washing etc.

thankyou for your input , i do like the idea of the heat exchanger , simple but effectve:cheers:
