Are all european gas bottles the same? I mean connection wise? We have a bottle from about 8 years ago bought in France. the connectors are different to uk ones and we wondered if we swop it in say Germany, will it use the same connector or does each european country have a different one? Or indeed are the bottles not interchangable through different countries. Any gratefully ideas?

spain is a odd one . some german regs look like the french but can be slightly different .
the french one is like the old uk butane . but i think you wont be able to swap bottles here there every where . camping gas yes you can.

Camping Gaz is fairly ubiquitous - I carry one in case I get caught out and have had no problems getting refills. Don't know anything about Spain though...

and the connectors for the camping gaz are the same as my propane one?

no camping gas as its own fitting .but you can get adaptors to make it fit what ever you want .
can i suggest you visit a good caravan /motor homestore .go personaly with your van .and ask for help.
i tend to convert all bottles of butane from wht ever country to the old uk /french fitting .
i do keep uk propane on the uk propane regulator . but really dont use it alot .
i normaly use french /moroccan bottles or spanish. plus uk butane . all these i can use one style of reg by adapting .
camping gas as well.

ok, thanks for that. i am hoping that the two we take ( 11kg and 13kg propane ) will be sufficient for a 5 week trip as we wont be using the heating, just water, fridge and hob/oven. What do you think? Enough ?

fridges take a fair bit of gas.
do you still have the french bottle .if so take that as well and get it exchanged in france.
