hi all
has anybody tried the adapters that fill gas bottles l fancy getting one it seems a cheap way of getting gas every little helps and with the savings l could help to boost the profits of my local hostilerys thus providing jobs and reducing unimployment

I've got one and boosted the local economy no end, some petrol stations get a bit bolshy but I found my local Morrisons don't have a problem.
I also have the screw in adaptors for the German, Dutch, French and Belgium petrol stations so I can refill my gas all over Europe, but remember to let some of the pressure off a full bottle ie.. a 5 second blast and be carefull at all times. Good luck with providing local jobs.

re gas adapter

hi i have one i use all the time when i run out just find a lpg petrol station make sure you only put in the correct amount it shows you on the adapter check the size of your galor gas bottle 13kg 6kg 11kg ect you can get them off ebay evrey little helps

gas adapter

thanks guys l will get one its good to know that somebody from the wrong side of the hill gave me some advice why dont you come to gods country and see what its like without rain

hi. been doing it for years .by the way its been right grand down here in cornwall .not like yesterday never stopped raining all day .
anyway follow the instructions they work a treat.

I have one & have used it with no problem, don't like the idea of 'remember to let some of the pressure off a full bottle ie.. a 5 second blast' better to get yourself a weighing scales, you can get the luggage type from poundland & weigh the bottle. Somewhere it should have the empty weight of the bottle stamped on it, LPG weighs approx. 1kg for 2 litres so it's easy enough to estimate how much you need to fill it. Don't be tempted to overfill as this can be dangerous if anything underfilling is the best option after all you can always top it up at any time. A gas bottle needs a space to evaporate in the bottle, if the bottle is too full then liquid LPG can come out of the appliance & expand causing a high risk of fire/explosion.

One more question.

I see from the ebay listing that the adaptors seem to be designed to be used for propane bottles only, or can they be used on butane bottles?

in uk the same trucks that deliver to my house go on to top the local garage . .its propane in uk . in warmer climates it can have other gases mixed in it . there is a guide somewhere on the net that gives the eu mixes .but dont worry it normally seems to be ok.

used to be very secretive but noticed at the big malvern show 3 different stalls all selling the same sort of adaptor that i bought of e bay got [ non return valve ] , came with instructions thick gloves etc and also recomended upending every 5/6 refills with valve open & fill at 2ltrs = 1kg for 80% safety rate

Propane gas bottles.

Can you fill butane bottles also with LPG or only Propane bottles.

uk butane bottles have a different connector , you can buy an adaptor .uk pol to butane lh thread .
if you look on the bottles butane 15kg. propane 13 kg . yes you can put propane into butane bottles . even the butane regulators will let you use them . the shut off on the regulators overlap. or you can get adjustable regulators. i have a couple of them one bought in uk ,other one in maroc . but never really had to adjust them yet.

Even if you get an adaptor to fit a butane bottle I'm not aware of anywhere you can get butane. If you are going to fill it with propane then surely it is easier to just get a propane bottle as the adaptors are readily available these can be easily acquired from your local recycling depot for free or a small fee.

If you are going to use it abroad then you will also need other fittings which will screw into the adaptor for different countries.

But the deposit

Yes sounds good but then you have to pay out a hefty deposit for a propane bottle. I have one butane bottle and one propane gas bottle, hence my question. I know it would make more sense to have two propane bottles but I have never got around to it probably mainly due to the £50 pus deposit for a calor or flogas bottle.

the propane (red)are the best anyway ! I have 2 13kg bottles and never have a problem in winter.

Have you tried your local recycling centre?? They usually have loads of bottles of all types, some will let you have them for free others for a small charge. Other than that try asking on one of the Freecycle websites I got one off there, they were grateful for me taking it away. Calor will usually let you swap between butane & propane bottles when you get a refill.

hi greytop. i have a flogas depot at the end of my road . they tell me they dont charge a deposit on bottles of 13-19 kg or in fact bigger ones .
i would swap one at a calor depot though if they will. i also have had no probs swapping a butane for propane at our local calor shop.
i only konw this works.

Adaptor for connecting male POL fittings to cylinders with male 21.8mm SI fittings - commonly used for fitting UK propane regulators to cylinders with 21.8mm SI fittings which are fitted on some UK butane cylinders and various cylinders elsewhere in the world.
5/8in BSP-LH female POL for propane x 21.8mm SI-LH female

these are usefull if you have french or german or moroccan bottles . you can use the uk filler adaptor to fill them .
also spanish if you adapt that to the21.8 mm fitting .

So are you saying that we can get an adapter and fill up our old 6KG Propane calor gas bottle with LPG from our local petrol station? This seems so easy and cheaper than changing over to Gaslow.

Yes you can fill 6kg bottles like this and other sizes. I save £15+ every time I fill up on 6kg.

3 Caveats

1. Only fill empty bottles

2. Fill 12litres for 6kg by volume

3. Check by weight on scales you only have 6kg and the pump callibration was right

Even overfilling is not as dangerous as they make out, but best be 100% safe and follow the 80% fill guidlines. Just remember you can't brim it like a normal fuel fill!
