Garmin 2597 problem. Memory Full.

Hi, I am have an ongoing problem with my Garmin satnav. As soon as I switch it on it says “Memory Full”. I hit OK and carry on but some time into the journey it will display the same message. The satnav still,keeps keeps workin OK, it’s just annoying. I have an SD card in the side of the unit but not sure what this does ? I have used the POI loader to “delete all POI,s” it makes no difference, it still shows the same message. Anybody got any idea how to overcome this problem ? Thanks in advance.

Windows

Connect the device to a computer
Click on the Start button
Click on My Computer, Computer or File Explorer
Press Windows key + E (Windows 8 and 10)
Click on This PC (Windows 10 only)
Double click to open the Garmin or Garmin nuvi drive
Open the GPX folder
Some devices will require you to open the Garmin folder or Internal Storage first
Open the Archive folder
Delete the contents of this folder

Got this from Garmin support.It dosnt specify a model no....

Do you know what is in the Archive folder? Maps, favourites, pois?

I'm not sure but think it includes all your previous inputted routes ect as well as the all important mapping info,but you may be able to tell by perusing the listed data as these would be the most listed item.It may give the date each file was created which would give some indication.I wonder if it is the POI's ect as i have never experienced this on my 10 year old TT but i have never added any additional info onto its card and would have thought these were overwritten automatically

Edit;these are archives where the sat nav keeps a trip log,needless to say,these could be huge files

Thanks for the info.I found the GXP file and deleted it. So next trip we will see if it’s done the trick.

Tried all that Garmin recommend but no good. The same “Memory full “ still came up on screen on our last trip over the weekend. In frustration I then took a closer look in “settings” the icon is a spanner. I then went to “Device info” there I found “clear travel history “ yes or no. This records all your past travel data and also the trip log (if you have this feature.) so I cleared the history and on the way home no problem with the error message. I was a really obscure area of the satnav (Devise info !! ) I had never looked at this in detail before. Job done!! Many thanks for your help.

Thanks for that.Just bought a Garmin so will look to see if it works the same way.I would have thought that going into and deleting the file manually was the same as asking the device to clear the history.but there you are.Modern technical bits of kit are great till they go wrong

You could also delete the voices you don't use... most satnavs come with lots of different languages and they just take up space. Also, I don't know what model yours is or if it'll take a bigger capacity SD card but that's another solution that might help. I've got a 16GB (or possibly 32GB - can't remember!) SD card in my old Garmin and never had a problem with large map updates or the memory filling up. If you pop a new card in, you should get an option to transfer your maps to the card, instead of the (usually small) native storage on the device. If you don't get this option, connect it to your PC and Garmin Express should then recognise the card and offer to put maps there instead, assuming you're subscribed to map updates. If you google your model, you'll likely find that someone's uploaded a Youtube video that will show you everything you need to know.

I have not had this problem myself but have read of owners fitting an SD card but the updates/POIs were not being automatically loaded onto the SD card. It might be worth checking to see what is on the card if the internal memory is full.
