Hi, we are looking for a wild camp location for dark sky viewing. Our motorhome is on the large side. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

We stayed at Stroan Loch by the viaduct on the Raiders Road last year. Although tickets are only valid until midnight, we had no problems.

Stroan Loch

Stoan Loch or the Otter Pool on the Raiders road. Lots of places within the Galoway forest park, but my fav is the raiders road.

Spent a few nights here , only just inside the park but was very dark, a very curious herd of Goats gave Harry a hard time there too.

Google Maps by the Water of Minnoch , the farm is marked as Kirriereoch

I,ve also overnighted at the Glentrool Visitor Centre but the midges were blocking the sun when I was there and it was only May.

There's some lovely spots around Glentrool, but the bridge by the visitor centre had works going on when we were there in September and I'm not sure how big a van you'd get across there at the moment. 'Sprinter' sized vans were getting across okay.

I seem to remember some bridge restriction when I was there , but my van went over OK , renault master , yes there is a nice spot right up the end of the road/track past the centre too .

We wild camped in Galloway forest a couple of years back next to Loch Doon....

It was possibly THE most midge ridden place I've ever camped AND possibly the most litter and human waste ridden too...
Beautiful spot ruined by the local "Neds" Down to the level of a camping chair in the bracken on the shore with a suspicious hole cut in the base of it....

Thanks

Thanks for all the info on Galloway. Great place and 100s of spots to overnight. Checked Raiders Road and looks great. Viaduct location spoilt by human excrement by waters edge. Litter also.
We will return for sure.
