Fridge Won't work on 12 volt

My fridge won't work on 12 volt it use to it works on the electric fine put a new leisure battery on and stil no joy
 
Hia cooki and welcome to the site.

Did you know that your fridge only works on 12 volt while the engine is running (because the alternator supplies the voltage).

When you are parked up, you either use 240 volts (mains) or gas.

The usual procedure is to precool your fridge at home by hooking up to the mains, switch to the 12 volt setting just before you set off and switch to mains or gas when you arrive at your destination.

I am sorry if it sounds like I am teaching granny how to suck eggs but you did not give enough information for members to help.
 
Have you tried actually driving the motorhome as mine doesnt kick in until I have some proper power from the battery, (maybe after driving for half a mile) what battery is it running off?
 
12 volt fridge

Yes tried running van and it a new battery 75 ap wondering if it has a fuse or loose wire as it was ok a few weeks ago
 
well thats a differant message than your first one which seemed to imply it had never worked. ?

The more information you can give about your problem the better chance we have of guessing the likely problem and offering a solution.

if it has worked previously then there are a several possibilities.
1 the fridge might have packed up ?
If you said whether it still works on Gas or hookup it would help us
2. there is no 12v supply to the fridge due to faulty wiring or switch
3 There may be a large voltage drop between the leisure battery and the fridge so the fridge is not getting the 12v it needs
4 there is a fault with your Zig electrical distribution panel ?

You need to find someone that can use a multimeter to check the 12v supply to the fridge and the general wiring and switches.
 
I suspect that if you tried running a fridge off a leisure battery, it'd be flat in no time, don't they have a relay type thing [you can tell I'm techy minded] to prevent that happening?
 
The fridge normally runs on 12 volts through a split charge relay normally located under the bonnet.

Without any info on what type of vehicle the OP has, we cannot help very much.
 
Do you really need 12v? I just use ice packs for coolboxes put them in the fridge when traveling and re-freeze them in the freezer compartment when parked up. What makes you think the 12v isn't working if the fridge has a switch with a light in it and its not lighting up could just be the bulb has gone. Have you used a volt meter at the fridge to see if your getting a supply?
 
As stated before, without knowing the vehicle we are a bit stumped but this wekend my fridge would not work on 12v. The switch light was not showing but with help from another forum, I located the fuse in the engine bay. There was a small fuse block containing 2 fuses hanging by the vehicle battery. One is for the charging circuit to the leisure battery when engine running, the other is for the fridge to run on 12v when engine running. This fuse had blown on my Boxer based Autosleeper. This may be of help to you.
 
Dont forget also that a fridge not used for a while will take a while to hit its temperature, if has maingate correctly suggests you dont ehu at home first.

Our company insists that the couriers defrost fridges on changeover days.

Last night a knock at my door fridge not working (but freezer compartment was) I checked it out this morning all was fine, Upon investigating it turned out that the fridge had been defrosted that day and it took practically 12 hours for it to get back to temperature

Furthermore that was a 240v appliance
