I'm just doing my 6 monthly check and service on my Dometic Three Way fridge and I'm wondering what this plastic container is for? Should it be empty or should it have water in? It seems like some sort of overflow to me, but what do I know?

Nope not seen 1 befor.looks like the contents evaporated so if connected to fridge mite be used as the drain ?

It is most likely an condensation overflow with a tube from the inside of the fridge. Can't quite make out the picture due to extreme closeup but these containers are usually pretty small and open.

This is the one on my Thetford ...

I am guessing they positioned it to sit on the pipe so the water warms up and easier to evaporate?

Spot on ....

A,lot of domestic fridges have a tray that sits on top of the compressor to do the same with the heat of the compressor ...

Commercial display fridges often run the liquid (hot when running) refrigerant line through the drip tray ...
So the copper line eventually rots away and blows the refrigerant charge off ...

Another handsome design ...NOT

Condensation collector, never seen one with owt in it though, there should be a tube which runs up to a collector groove in the back of the inside of the fridge below the fins

We have had our collector overflow so I now have a pipe leading outside. I suspect the idea is that the liquid evaporates and helps cool the circulating refrigerant. In practice the condensation forms when the fridge is switched off at the end of a trip and I am not around to drain it. A small syringe with a flexible pipe is handy for draining, the pipe is more reliable.
