Wifey is keen on a posh cool box - specifically the Icey-Tek one - she's used one in the past, seemed to work well. Down side is that they need pre-cooling before use and the more the merrier and then you need to fill them with ice blocks and use freezer blocks, etc. and drain the meltwater from the ice bricks... Seems a bit of a faff to me.

I'm keen on the Alpicool 12v compressor fridge (G22) which I can chill off the engine when driving then off the leisure battery + solar in the summer.

We do cook, (gas) but don't need much to be refrigerated - milk and bacon and some dog food (dogmatix eats mostly raw food, but it's stored frozen). It's not like we're a family with 2.4 kids or anything and don't drink "traditional" stuff from the fridge like beer, pop, etc. so fridge needs are quite modest.

So any thoughts of these 2, or is there something else I've not found yet that could be better?

Cheers,

-G

Liz wants one as well , but unless you have a decent power supply I wouldn't spend the money.

I was looking at one of these has a rechargeable backup battery pack that lasts up to 8 hours

A 12v compressor fridge is the best move I ever made for this purpose and I've tried them all after 20 something boats and 3 campers.

The Alpicool looks good but some reviewers say it's a little noisy. You can always turn it off overnight though, which I sometimes do with my Vitrifrigo.

To be honest I reckon over the years of camping and campervans etc I've worked my way through the whole world of keeping food cool ...

From a bucket of cold water/tea towel to cool boxes with ice packs
To a gas chest fridge outside the tent (worked like a dream and cheap/simple )
To a Waeco 40l compressor type cool box
Then to a motorhome with a 3 way fridge

To eventually pulling the pfaffy 3 way out and replacing it with a 240v undercounter fridge/victron inverter from our solar and batteries ....

12v compressor types are fantastic (if you have the solar/batteries/B2B etc etc )

And are a world away from the temperamental 3 way types .
IF you have the solar etc to support it then a compressor type is a no brainer imho ...whether you go straight 12v or 240 via an inverter is a personal choice BUT 240/ inverter is usually a cheaper option AND I found the fridge had more useable space inside .

Compressor fridges are now being fitted to new Chausson motorhomes.... from a forum I use..
I could not find anything really bad about alpicool 90ltr faults on line except they say they now use lec compressors.... I thought that lec was a good thing, so time will tell.. and at half the price of a dometic it's worth a go.
My 3 way dometic I had the problems with is now working perfectly but it's still coming out when the compressor one arrives..... I have had my orders and I ain't saying "it will be ok"

Get it on ebay and make a good bit of moolah.
