Fridge not working on gas

Any suggestions please. My fridge has started not working on gas. It’s fine on 240 electric, but on gas it tries to run for maybe 5 seconds, then clicks off, for 5 minutes, then tries to run again.
There is plenty of gas in the tank and the valves are open. It’s just started doing this and was fine previously. The van is level and all other gas appliances work as they should.

The flame is not igniting so it's going into lockdown for safety reasons.
There is either no gas at the burner which will probably be a blocked jet from debris from the flue or there is no spark to ignite the gas. You'll have to gain access to the burner and try lighting the flame manually with a match/taper while it's in the ignition stage, this will tell you whether it's lack of gas or lack of spark but to be fair you should be able to see/hear the sparking anyway if that's working.
I have to tale a vacuum cleaner to the burner quite regularly on our van, that's all I find I have to do and the flame is back to normal, just suck all the crap from off and around the burner.

I had a good look and the burner is encased in a galvanised "box" and is not something which looks "customer friendly"! So it will need looking at by someone qualified. I'll get on to it after the week-end. Thank you for your suggestion though.

if i understand it ok, that box is a very simple draught protection and is usually held on by 2 small screws . no problem to remove
 
Two things
a) Look on You Tube for cleaning gas burner on caravans. Loads of videos, it is easier than you might think.
b) Check the fridge tap on the manifold is open.
 
Have you tried resetting/rebooting the fridge controls?

Depends on model year of fridge but if control panel electronic then rebooting should be possible.

Only suggestion is to check the gas jet by the burner is not blocked this was the problem I had good luck

If you mean switching the fridge on and off again, I've tried that. Is there something more technical? It's not giving me a fault code either. I've tried several dealers and a mobile repair guy and no one can look at it before the end of September. The mobile guy, from Northwich in Cheshire is not taking on any new work until 2024! Now THERE'S an idea for Dragons Den! 🙂

The real idea for Dragons Den .......
A company taking out gas fridges and replacing them with Compressor Fridges which work even if no level, even if the ambient temperature is high and is far more efficient in power use as well.

Looks like your gonna have to take a screwdriver to the burner cover! It's not that difficult and we're here to give some support if needed 💪

True. That would allow lots of continuing conversations on forums about how to fix gas burner issues :)
That is the problem with Compressor fridges. Because you just fit them and they never give any issues, they are boring.

That galvanised box you mention is just two sections of tin, easily removed.
If hoovering the crap from around the burner doesn’t work it’s possible the jet is blocked from the other side.
My fridge is 20 years old & I have to clean the jet regularly as the old gas pipes tend to emit a type of “shale”?To prove this to myself I removed the jet & tied a piece of muslin around the pipe, disconnected the gas inlet & gave it a blast of compressed air.
There was a visible amount of black dust in that cloth.
Also, due to the design of the panel van it’s in the burner cannot be accessed through the vents, I have to remove the fridge from the front to carry out any repairs.
Which is a right pain in the bum!

I have to clean the jet every few months. This is with the fridge operating continuously.

I did wonder what was blocking the jet progressively. That may be the answer.
