Fridge Help

The gas we are getting has been of a lesser quality and there is a residue of oil or waxes left in the product. Over a period of time these start to block the jet reducing the flow and efficacy of the burner. To clean out successfully use an electrical cleaner or WD40 and ensure that the cotton bud or whatever is clean when you have completed your job. This normally fixes the problem. Of course the jet has to be removed. DO NOT under any circumstances put something through the jet. This alters the gas air mixture and the unit will produce copious amount of deadly carbon monoxide.

In 2018 we had 2 problems.
No 1 not cooling enough.
New burner needed.

No 2 starting but not staying alight.
(so gas stopping)
New gas control valve (in fridge) needed.

Some years ago I discovered that the inside of the metal pipe which provides gas to the burner was rusting, and rust particles settled at the bottom, causing the problem you mentioned. Annual fridge checks are extra, and few companies would have discovered this anyway! I took off the burner assembly and tapped the pipe with a screwdriver to dislodge the rust, and after makinging sure the spark igniter wouldn't, blasted out the rust with a quick burst of gas. Repeated a few times, and the problem was solved.

H&S would have a fit, of course.

Best to turn off your fridge for a 6 hour crossing, as well as the bottles. The alarm on your fridge will be sapping your battery. But remember to switch it on when you drive off!

I have found the best procedure to clean the jet is to spray brake cleaner through it.

Then I use an air duster aerosol to blow it dry and dislodge any particles of loosened dirt.

As mentioned above NEVER insert any object into the jet.

I think it more than the jet and lack of cleaning now as it has all been blown out.
Fortunately the dealer I bought the van from in Orleans will check it tomorrow.
I think it more likely to be a relay or PCB not synchronising the spark with the gas flow.
Will let you know.
Best wishes

Bet it would have been more in U.K.

With the gas stopping altogether at one point, I wonder if the gas cut off valve is sticking partially open? My problem on my van was a complete seizure of the valve but you might try this remedy which worked for me...

Good luck
Edited to apologise not noticing yours is now fixed, well done. Perhaps link may be of use to another...?

It makes no difference if it would be cheaper in the UK, it is still a small price to pay if it is fixed and you can now enjoy yourself, have a great holiday
