Fridge fan

I have four artic f12 fans that are behind my bottom vent. I have a thermo switch (35c) attached to the fins at the top of the fridge. If the fins reach 35c then the fans come on.

and the van lifts off ;))

I looked at the thermo switch which would have been easier to fit, very similar to Dometics but significantly cheaper though, I wanted to be able to change the temperature it switched the fans on although in reality I might never have to, my bottom vent is underneath the fridge on the floor not in a sidewall so I ruled out fans being fitted in that, anything that increases airflow has to improve Summer performance though, my fridge is the 'climate class' made especially for hotter climates and it struggled this year when the temp was in the high 30's

Fitting a fan definitely helps in high temperatures. I fitted a 12v fan bought from eBay at the top to draw air over the heat exchanger and simply led the cabling into the cab by the drivers door where there is a 12v socket. When it's hot I plug it in.... I also filled the void between the fridge and the van paneling using layers of 30mm foil backed insulation until the gap was such that the cooling air being drawn in is forced to pass over the heat exchanger fins. Works a treat and it's a 1999 Dometic fridge.
