FRESHWATER FILLING HOSE CLEANING.

Afternoon all. What do people do regarding cleaning there filling hoses, we have a flat one and some bits of normal type we use, and noticed even the flat one had some water in from several months ago. I'm thinking fill a container with aqua sol/our and pump it through the hoses?

Any thoughts welcome🙂👍
 
I have a flat hose and to clean it I mix some Miltons solution then fill with a tap connector on a funnel (hold the other end up with a double connector on, then remove the funnel once full and click it into the double connector then leave for 5 hours. Then repeat with Zoflora then rinse through.

I do similar with the whale hose and container filler.
 
Thanks Boris. So join the hose in a loop with the connectors and the Milton inside for the prescribed amount of time. Sounds like a good idea. 🙂👍
 
Apart from occasionally running water through the hose before placing it in the filler, I've never done any hose cleaning routine. Didn't even know it was a thing. Mind you, I rarely drink water from the tank.
 
It depends on your usage I guess, I avoid sites and do a lot of motorsport events.

As an example the water ran out at Brands Hatch this weekend, when it got sorted the water was blue and smelt for about 2 hours (didn’t effect me as my tank and portable 25l container were full) but even if you use sites and your hose sits for a time I’d clean it personally.
 
I used a 10 meter length blue food grade pipe with a Hozelok fitting on one end and replaced it every year.

We drank water straight from the tank which was cleaned with Puriclean twice a year and are still here to tell the story.

I considered it to be part of the yearly maintenance expenditure
 
Never bothered cleaning hoses or watering cans or tanks.
Grew up in an era when hygiene was just a word, we played in the dirt, threw cow pats and chalky dog turds at each other and bath night was a once a week affair. Being the youngest of 4, I had the dubious pleasure of bathing in the dirty water of my siblings. Tin bath in front of the fire and carbolic soap was the order of the day.
As a consequence of such a 'luxurious' lifestyle I am not prone to stomach bugs, dengy fever or the like.
Being in the late autumn of my life, I envisage a heart attack rather than my life force being blasted from my backside like a water canon.

My food grade hose is probably about 15 years old. Its semi transparent. Its pretty disgusting on the inside now so I guess they do get a bit nasty over time but I've never thought about cleaning it. I did buy a new expandable one this year mainly to clean the bikes with but I might take that if we ever get away. We rarely drink from the tank water though but I have done. I prefer bottled water which allows us to eek out the tank water as its easy to get without moving the van.

Don't forget that nice lady who spat on her fingers to open the brown paper bag and then blew into it before use.
 
I don't clean my hose, don't use it much but it's just a normal garden hose pipe. Usually just use a watering can, don't clean that either, just rinse it out
