French breathaliser kit

Appears the law is that carrying a breathalyzer kit in France is a legal requirement yet if you are caught without one there is no fine. Would you buy one if you were going to France?

Yes as it could save a great deal of grief with the law if stopped. Not worth the hassle for the sake of saving a few quid imho.

They are "peanuts" to buy.

As with all the other regulations (safety vest in Cab..put on before getting out and one for passenger)

I (touch wood) have not been stopped but the cost and other problems if you are stopped and found wanting would simply ruin the trip
Be prepared and be careful (eg Do NOT drink and then Drive !!! Stating the obvious I Know but...

Then you can enjoy your trip !

Wasn't the man in Sarko's administration responsible for introducing this idea re: breathalysers also a share holder in the company that produced them?

Anyway, if you want to buy them, the cheapest place is in the Supermarkets

Do be aware though that the French have just lowered the drink-Drive limits yet again. The limit is now the equivalent of half a pint

Just to be different, NO! When Hollande became President he in effect ditched this Sarkozi policy (I too figured he must have had shares in the company!) and we have travelled extensively through France without ever even seeing one for sale (although there was a huge display of them on the port at Dover!). But when I'm driving I don't drink anyway.

Yes, buy them. But DO NOT buy them in UK or at the ports, get them in French supermarkets where they practically give them away.

Disposed of mine over a year ago when the date expired I have no intensions of replacing them, neither have I any intention of disabling the speed camera warning on my tom tom, I have had a lifetime of Europe’s finicky traffic laws, if a French /Italian or Spanish traffic cop wants money of you he will have it in my experience by finding something wrong.Friday used to be be the worst time when they wanted money for the weekend better to settle as cheap as possible rather than argue.

Have already bought two for my first m/home trip late Feb.
Better being safe than sorry and it's just a precaution as you may get an awkward gendarme, AND they carry guns. Will definitely have my "Mr Polite" head on whilst there.
The breathalyzers are only cheap and small so I'll just leave them in the glove box, no problem Occifer.

do as the french do , throw them away , waste of space ; the results never did have any legal significance any way
only the british were conned into buying 2 , you only ever need one , never to be used as the result was meaningless
the gendarmes no longer ask if you have one , I got stopped in a routine check near my home recently , asked the gendarme if he wanted to see mine...he just laughed , throw it in the rubbish he said , that's what they are

I have a set but they are a bit like German first aid kits Buy two as you might need something for a cut finger and if you break the seal you can be fined.
Buy two, use one and keep the other for plodzei.
