Free Motor Legal Ins.

I have never bought it in my life.... maybe because I always drive old cars... but we are forced into thinking these days that we need insurance for more and more and more stuff.

national express asked me 10 years ago if I wanted to buy insurance... "What will I be covered against ?" "Dunno" - "well than I aint buying it."

I pay £25 a year to the RAC Legal Cover, it covers me for legal cover on vehicles and home insurance so I save £100 a year by not paying it individually on three vehicles, that looks good though so I will look into it when mine is due for renewal

If it looks too good to be true....

It's provided by either a firm of solicitors or a claims management company.

If you use their services you must use all of their applicable (To your accident) services eg hire car, personal injury and car repairs etc.

If you go through them you have no access to the Insurance Ombudsman if you're not happy with their settlement offer etc.

Some of these types of companies eg Albany are inept and take forever to settle claims. Some eg Drive Assist (Who are now in administration) string your repairs out for longer than needed so they can make more money from the very expensive hire car they provide.

Not sure of the accuracy of the above, but it would make sense.

Rammed by Romanian register Scania

This afternoon we got rammed by a Romanian registered Scania lorry on the M4 near the M25 junction.
Pushed us over to the centre barrier, we spun round and the the lorry rammed our car in the side and pushed us sideways down to motorway!
Trying out this claims service, our insurer has said our car has been written off.

Oh the driver got out, lit a fag and did not say a word to us!

Loaned us a new Mercedes B180 CDI,

Well the "free motor legal team" have loaned us a new Mercedes B180 CDI, where our own insurer Morethan has said as our car has been written off we could not have a car.

I'm glad that that you're ok harrow, and as I posted the link for the free insurance It's good that so far it's working ok for you.

John.

John, thank you.

Its good to have someone on our side. Morethan phoned this morning and offered us £950 for our car less the £350 pound excess = £600

£600 for a car that we purchased brand new, that's been garaged every night and absolutely been cherished.

January 2014 the 4 new tyres were £250 !

The Copart scrap man is collecting it tomorrow. :(

You should have the excess recovered for you since the fault was due to the other party ...

how old was the car ?

I wished I new about this last Oct when a French woman driver ran down the side of our new motorhome as my Insurance company have told me if she does not admit to it I've lost my £450 excess.

Well the car was 10 years old, and had driven it for 66000 miles.

We bought it from brand new and it's been garaged every night.

I even have replacement front and rear wiper blades in boxes.

New boxed wheel bearings, as I did have to replace one after about 25000 miles.

I have new oil filters, fuel filters and engine oil etc

Complete sets of light bulbs, we had every intention of keeping it another 10 years!

John this is the problem with all car insurance, if they do not answer the letters from the insurance company they can get away with it.

Apparently the Romanian's are likely to refuse to deal with my insurance company "we don't speak English" and Morethan say if they refuse to co-operate we will not get our £350 excess back.

But that's the whole point of having legal protection insurance ...

Losses which you incur through no fault of your own, and which are the liability of another party, are recovered through the legal system.

A solicitor appointed by Free Motor Legal will act on your behalf to get your money back.

Or have they refused to deal with it? If so, we should be advised.
