France & food.

About 10 years ago we were stopped at GB side on the way out. It was a through search, every cupboard, overhead locker, external locker and even the gas locker and under the bonnet. They looked under the duvet and checked the oven, fridge and microwave.

I asked one of the guys if they were looking for something specific or if I'd just drawn the short straw.
His answer was brief and chilling ... " A month old baby".

Couple of points, just like humans, dogs have different specialist microbes so changing food ingredients is the problem as they haven’t the specific bacteria to deal with it, some bacteria are veggie and others carnivore and they need a few days to tolerate the new food. Second point, if you really must feed them kibble use “cold pressed” which will not expand it their gut which causes colic and exacerbates their microbial intolerance.

@jacquigem As long as your dog is doing well and likes it, that's the most important thing - foods have to meet at least minimum standards.

The only other writing on the bag appears to be Spanish and is far too small for my eyes even with glasses
A tip - if you photograph it you can sometimes enlarge it enough to read, but more importantly, if you have an android phone you might be able to get an automatic translation.

I discovered that by accident when I photographed a Portuguese menu, planning to look up the dishes later. It basically just offered me a ”translate to English” option and showed the photo of the menu in English.

Thanks ,I will have a look at that , I'm happy with the dog and her food but always interested in learning more.

Could someone please point me in the direction where this information can be verified?
Gov.uk is still saying meat and dairy are not allowed.

Taking food and drink into the EU

You cannot take meat, milk or products containing them into EU countries. There are some exceptions for medical reasons, for example certain amounts of powdered infant milk, infant food, or pet food required for medical reasons. Check the rules about taking food and drink into the EU on the European Commission website.

We are on a number of different Internet motorhoming sites and have yet to hear of anyone having problems. I would not worry about it if I were you.

The link you posted takes you straight to a post from a member which says "Pursuant to Article 48(d) and (e) of Regulation (EU) 2017/625"...so make of that what you will.

I suspect that we as MH forum members (and indeed anyone on any forums) do themselves any favours by keeping on starting these threads and drawing attention to the issue.

Yes it's a fair point , but given the amount of disinformation out there I can understand why newbies are cautious. I am not 100 per cent sure of the legalities here but I think fir once common sense is being applied.

Provided you can order the dog food that you require on amazon.fr that should work.

Is this per person or vehicle?

Per person.

Alcohol allowance

How much you can bring depends on the type of alcohol. You can bring in both:

  • beer - 42 litres
  • wine (still) - 18 litres
You can also bring in either:

  • spirits and other liquors over 22% alcohol - 4 litres
  • alcoholic drinks up to 22% alcohol (not including beer or still wine) - 9 litres
Alcoholic drinks up to 22% alcohol include:

  • sparkling wine
  • fortified wine (for example port, sherry)
  • cider
You can split this last allowance. For example, you could bring 2 litres of spirits and 4.5 litres of fortified wine (both half of your allowance).

Example

If you bring in 19 litres of wine, you must pay tax and duty on all of it because you have gone over your 18 litre allowance for wine

Tobacco allowance

You can bring in one of the following:

  • 200 cigarettes
  • 100 cigarillos
  • 50 cigars
  • 250g tobacco
  • 200 sticks of tobacco for electronic heated tobacco devices
You can split this allowance - so you could bring in 100 cigarettes and 25 cigars (both half of your allowance).
