I have just returned from Germany and France, I would fill up at Tesco in Dover because it isn't much difference in price than France, we had no problems getting fuel anywhere in France but others advised me to top up when you get to half full, I didn't bother after doing it the first time because I didn't see any shortages.
The 'yellow vests' were friendly and waved when we sounded the horn, only once did the Police close the road but that was in a large town at peak time which is something we try to avoid even without demonstrators, don't let the stories on the news worry you, I stopped to take photos at a roundabout and as soon as they knew that I was English a few came and shook my hand

We traveled down through France just over two weeks ago and had no problems with the yellow vests, or in getting fuel
