As I mentioned before in another thread we have been trying to find a suitcase folding camping table that is not made in China also a cellular tablet. We don't mind paying a bit more but it appears that it is not possible.
What a sad state of affairs it is, we are being held at ransom by China.

As someone told me the other day on here. We can't get away from China as their parts and items and in just about everything we buy.. It's a sad carry on. It would be great if we could get back to being Great Britain again and build our own stuff...

But that's not going to happen..

Can I ask why do don't like to buy from China? I am not being antagonistic, I am genuinely interested. I am aware of working conditions so I will assume that is part of the reason, maybe the entire reason. Anything else?

Unfortunately we have priced ourselves out of the market for making low tech stuff. China could probably make a folding table for a couple of quid, it would cost £20 to make in the UK.

The western world likes cheap goods so a lot of goods are made in sweat shops and by slave labour. Now it has all come back to bite us on the ar5e, we produce very little and we cannot compete.

Even better is buy it direct from china and don't pay Vat :)

I bought two of these torches from the poundland three years ago, mistakenly I left this one in a fleece pocket that went into a 30 minute wash at 30 degree and lo and behold it still works perfectly.

I have just sat and giggled to myself on how this thread morphed from a folding table enquiry into a dislike of China, I love this forum, keep it up lads and lasses
Is it dislike of China or disappointed that our own country is unable to build/make our own things.. Its a shame that we need to rely so much on importing.

ive just had some mower starter solenoids delivered.... box from china about a fiver each.... whilst waiting arrival i had to buy one from a uk online source....same solenoid about 15 quid....probably 30 in the local mower dealer.

but go back hundred and fifty years and it was us exporting worldwide, lister and petter engines seem to crop up all over the place.

You would be disappointed a lot more if you had to work under the same wages and conditions as the Chinese. It's just the way of the World, the Unions fought for better wages and conditions and we became uncompetitive. :(

That is not a Political statement by the way, just an observation.

Yeah, I know what you mean.. They probably bout theirs from China in bulk..
I know its the way it and the difference in prices as I do buy stuff from China to save a few quid. I just think its a shame we have to really..

Yes I know, it just a shame things are as they are..
Nothing we do will change it and It does save us a few quid.

I think you would probably have to go to either a wood or metal fabricator to get a table made to your spec. There are folks in the Uk still able to make stuff but it is more artisan than mass produced. Handmade or one off items take time and skills and time can mean more costs 👍

Or find something close to what you require and modify it yourself.

I bought a multi height adjustable table and then found out that one height setting was perfect to make up a transverse bed instead of the longitudinal one fitted by Burstner. I added a clamp to strengthen the setting and the table also still works as a Coffee table when sitting outside. :giggle:
