Flat battery

I find that 2 weeks is the longest I can leave the engine battery before it needs attention. There is a small steady drain from the ECU, tracker and alarm system.

My leisure battery is monitored and topped up by my Efoy but no doubt solar panels can do the same job. I now have devices for keeping the engine battery topped up from the leisure battery. This is just as well because with the motorhome in storage for the duration of lockdown the engine battery would have been knackered and the tracker and alarm would have shut down when they were needed most.

could always get one of these

I have always had the same on my Sprinter 2 weeks and it’s too low to start in poor weather. I do have solar trickle charge so this is only a problem if I stay long in poor weather. I can always get started one way of the other though

In the past I used solar but my current storage space is shaded by barns and I get very little from solar, particularly in winter. I too am confident I could get started but being without tracker and alarm has insurance implications.

I don’t leave mine except when I go fir a walk or shop so alarm not so much an issue although I charge started battery if I need to before it gets flat. My tracker works off a rechargeable battery (18 months ish) and I get alerts from tracker and the tracking company before it needs charging.
I did have a failure on the trickle charge to starter battery this winter and took a while before I realised as solar was virtually non existent.
I remember you have another power source in your van but can’t recall the name, can you not trickle charge from that or do the fuel cells not last long?

2.4W? That would hardly make an impact!

My smart charger doesn't work on flat batteries but I have an old (the date is in roman numerals!) cheap charger that does.
Plus earlier this year my smart charger stopped all together I was on the point of replacement when I checked the fuse, sorted.
Ask you mate to check his charger.

A 20w panel would be about the smallest to use, lucky to get a useful 1 amp out of it through the day which would just about hold a battery up.
