First trip to Spain

The Good Life

Guest
Hi all, after a successful first trip to France last year we are now planning a Spanish holiday. So far we have only booked the ferry to Santander & now debating weather to stay northern Spain or drive across to Costa side.im sure there are lots of pros & cons to each side, so any tips or places to stay/visit would be thankfully received.
Thanks Mark & Tania

Depends on whether you prefer Benidorm to Santiago de Compostella , If you plan your route , you can have a taste of both.

Also depends on when you are going ..

The northern highlands are cool and draughty in winter.

You have less chance of trouble if you avoid the tourist hotspots.. That's where the drugs are... and the junkies who need to steal your valuables to pay for them.

Have a good trip.

How much time do you have?
We have booked a return trip (Portsmouth Bilbao Portsmouth) in July and only have two weeks so our trip is limited.

We always stop here at Embalse de Yesa in Aragon. No facilities, just a wildcamp spot with fabulous views, it's slightly off the track normally taken but a good safe stopover whether going South or West. Its close to Pamplona on the N240. We discovered it by chance in 2008 but keep going back each year. Popular place for the locals for swimming, but I only did that once as I came out more grey than when I went in due to the lime.

Looks super. Have you sent a PM to Polar Bear with coordinates for inclusion in the new Iberian POIs?

Hi,

Could you be a little more specific on the location of the drugs please?

What, and risk prosecution for promoting drugs trading?

I was recenly talking to a MH.er, Who had picked up exotic smoking supplies at Fuengirola, and all points south. He might have been a fibber.. But his irises were like saucers .
Benidorm is awash with Viagra.. Just ask John.

Hi all thanks for all your responses & sorry for not replying until now (long story why). We are heading out in beginning of August & think we are going to travel along the Pyrenees to the Costa side. Does anyone know what the wild camping is like on Costa, is it much the same or more difficult than France?

If it was us, we were there for 3 months in the winter, we would prefer to 'do' a few places well, than dash around all over the place catching glimpses of everything. The Costas will be very crowded with people and buildings unless you stay inland a bit, North-west Spain is beautiful. You pays your money you takes your choice.

Hi
Thanks for the info the stop looks lovely.

Another book to consider is The Rough Guide to Spain, sometime can be picked up in charity shops. We have this and the France issue and use it to plan routes down and back.
