Extinguisher by the Hab door, Blanket by the hob and don't forget your smoke and CO alarms.

We have one extinguisher with a gauge showing it is still good. I found another fire extinguisher the other day a "First Alert Tundra" aerosol sort of thing. It is out of date now (10/03/12). We'll still put it in the MH as we both agreed it may still work and you can always use to smash a window in a hurry if needs be.

Please don't be tempted to keep an old, out of date extinguisher in your van. It could be just as useful as a smoke alarm with no battery, or an empty first-aid kit!

Those small extinguishers can be replaced very cheaply, or for around £12-£15 with one such as this..... Kidde KSPS1X Multi-Purpose 1.0 kg ABC Fire Extinguisher: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

A good idea for anyone with an out of date extinguisher would be to practice putting out a small fire with it (in a "safe" open area of course, not in your motorhome!). Bear in mind that it might not work, so don't get too carried away when you build your fire!

And a much easier and more effective way to break a window is with one of these inexpensive life-hammers..... AA Car Essentials Emergency Car Hammer: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

Remember that a working smoke-alarm should give you plenty of warning if you have a fire, even if you're asleep, so you will almost always be able to make your exit via the van door.
