Fiat x244 exhaust systems

The front pipe on our 2006 (x244) Ducato based Hymer completely broke free from the first exhaust box on the way back from Yorkshire last week. Fortunately, ours is a right hand drive with a right hand exhaust exit so it should be a bog standard Fiat system. I can get a genuine Fiat front pipe for ~£40 on ebay so that looks a good start. I have just removed the whole system (easy job) and the two (original) silencers are starting to look a bit ropy so are not long for this world. A Bosal system will be £120 but I note other sellers are listing a single silencer system for about £50. My feeling is that they will be complete rubbish but wondered if anyone had tried one?

As a newly retired gentleman of leisure I feel I really ought to explore options for saving money

Thanks!

Keith

It depends on how much longer you will be keeping the van, in my experience the cheaper exhausts with a two year warranty only last a little longer than the two years, original exhausts are made of thicker metal
My exhaust lasted 14yrs from new and didn't fail but it looked ropey, I was lucky when I saw a genuine fiat exhaust on ebay for £50 from Germany, mine is L/H drive so exhausts are expensive here, it was free delivery as well, keep searching for a genuine part would be my advice

Agreed.
I had a citroen exhaust last more than 14 years from brand new.

My last Burstner Tag on a X244 had the LHD exhaust fitted. Around £300 if you could find one. In the end, the lads who do my servicing altered the mountings to fit a RHD exhaust. £75 for the new exhaust and £60 labour for fitting it.

The original has lasted 12 years and maybe has one year of life left if I put it back with a new front pipe on which is what I think I will do for now. On my Alfa I grafted on a universal £50 stainless back box which l got off ebay as the originals were nla. I wonder if I can make up a system for the Ducato with universal bits?
