Fiat Ducato intermittent starting problem

Just to bring everyone who has contributed to or read this thread up to date.

I took the van into Vospers the main Fiat dealer in Exeter yesterday to have the immobiliser problem checked out and hopefully rectified.

They said that they suspected that the control module is faulty.
Apparently replacing the control module would cost around £900 and in view of the fact that they only suspect that this is the problem I am not planning to get this done!

They charged me £114 for the benefit of knowing what they suspected was the problem.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed their ideas.
Hi Rodger. Did you fix it in the end. Im having the same problem. The van turns over but the padlock sign doesnt go out so it wont fire.

Hello everyone. Ive got a similar problem and was wondering if somone has had the same.
My van is a 2017 2.0 Fiat ducato. The padlock sign wont go out so it wont start. When i turn the key once, it says the hill start doesnt work, abs etc.
After plugging it in, it says each code is a missing message which i was told was because the ecu wasnt sending the right messages. I read one post that said put my key in and leave it in the ignition turned once for 40 min and then go back to it and turn it on and off a few times which i did and it started and all messages on the dash vanished. I drove it off my drive and it stalled on me and im back to the same problem. The local key guy said these keys dont loose their codes. I have 2 spare keys but not sure if they are keys just to open the doors as ive had dummy keys before on a fleet vehicle.

Im told to look in to the antener ring around the ignition barrel and possibley a faulty bsi / body control modual?

I know nothing about the Ducato system, but had a similar problem with my Mk1 Santa Fe car. It turns out there was a connector between the immobiliser coil that surrounds the ignition switch and the immobiliser module. As the immobiliser coil only picks up a minute signal current from the key chip, the slightest resistance in the connector stops the system working. I cured it by cutting out the 2 wires from the immobiliser coil and directly soldering them to the 2 wires from the immobiliser unit.
