I have an issue with the immobiliser on my van, tried both keys and the immobiliser light stays on, hence can't start the engine.....
Is there anyone local (Central Scotland) who can give me any help on sorting this out, i.e. decent auto electrician or garage? as a last resort I will go to the Fiat dealers but only got two arms and legs. Any help would be appreciated.

Try turning the key around, the pick up on the steering column works loose and moves away from key slightly, turning the key around often moves the transponder closer to the pickup and it works, andy

I had the same problem on my last van, a 1997 Ducato. (Is your's the version with the Red key?).

The garage couldn't get it sorted and in the end the cheapest option was to bypass the imobiliser altogether and put a switch in a hidden place. I had to switch this switch on before starting the engine and switch it off to kill the engine after taking the keys out.

This of course was no great hardship, and was a security measure in itself.

Thanks

Hi, Not the red key type( well only got two black fob keys with van)

What would be interesting is what kind of code reader is required to log into the ecu to read the diagnostics ?

I had a 1999 Nissan and that was Nissan main dealer only so it went to the scrap yard far too expensive to repair.

Have you tried a second ignition key ?

Hi know this is a wild shot, but I had exactly the same problem with the immobiliser light staying on dash and not been able to start my van about 2 weeks ago. Happened after disconnecting and removing my battery for a good charge and left it out for about a week. Tried loads of different things to get it to start and was just about to start ripping the immobiliser wiring out and by pass it. Then I thought I'd ring Fiat to see if they can help. Spoke to a technician who said he bets any money it's the fuel cut off switch. It trips off automatically when the battery is removed or for other safety reasons. Told me where it is and what it looks like. Went out pressed it and turned the key and hey presto started first time.

The fuel cut off switch is (on my 1997 Fiat Ducato van) located behind the vehicle battery screwed to the bulk head wall. Your looking for a black box (glow plug relay) next to it is a round black plastic housing with a rubber button on the top, can sometimes be also Red.

Give it a try, it's worth a shot. And good luck hope you get it sorted. Please give us an update on how you get on.

I feel your pain!
the exact same thing happened to me (2008 peugeot) M/h all packed up and ready for the 100 mile drive to Dublin for the ferry turned the key and the immobiliser light came on. eventually got it started drove 10 yards and on it came again.

A local garage put it on their generic code reader and found no faults

Next day took it to Peugeot specialist who put it on their code reader and it showed error codes in just about every curcuit! they (eventually) found that a lot of the wiring to the ECU was completely rotten they patched up the leads - they recomended a new wiring loom but do I look like Im made of money? any ways it cost about £300 to fix and only cost me three days of my holiday

I trawled the internet and found another Peugeot with the same fault - rotten wiring - and amazingly it too was 2008 so I wonder if a batch of wiring looms was left lying in a puddle?
