ferry booking amendment

hi all.
i tried to ring the caravan club last night to amend my ferry booking with new reg No.
took over 15mins to get through then was told the PERSON (singular) that i needed to talk to was further engaged and i would be transfered to her answer phone. i left my name and No + booking No + member No. I was told i would get a call within the hour. no-one said which hour! still waiting 24hrs later.
seems like they happily take your money then tough!
i saved £40 booking through cc club but there will be a £10 admin fee for change.
next time i'll go direct to norfolk line and pay full price, at least i can change itinery straight away at no charge.

feel better to get that off my chest.

Well, we booked our ferry through The Caravan Club and it said NO AMENDMENTS OR ALTERATIONS. We sold our van and thought that we had lost the ferry crossing money. We asked could we change to a car and the answer was yes but it cost us £25 to change. A week afterwards we decided that we could not be without a M/H and we therefore purchased another. We again changed this NO AMENDMENT & ALTERATION booking for a minimum fee of £5.
To be fair i did not think it was too bad!
On one of the telephone calls we did have to wait quite a while to get through as they were very busy!
Make what you want of this!

hi graham,
the last time we used norfolk line we booked direct but between booking and sailing we also changed our van.
i rang norfolk and they changed booking no problem and no fee 'cos it was still under 7mtr long.
I know the cc club are agents and i got a sailing for £98 instead of £138(a good saving)but add on the £10 fee + 15/20 mins to a national No and the saving deminishes rapidly.
on the cc club web site there is a link for amendments and cancellations. IT DOESN'T EXIST.unknown page!!.
I rang norfolk direct but as it was booked through an agent they cant help.
I'll ring again tomorrow in the daytime but i'de still like to know where's my return call and why only one person to deal with this type of request?.

just got an e-mail as i type this from a Pat Carruthers at cc club saying they did ring (i was in all night) but i can e-mail my amendment to them so i'll give that a try.

Hi John,
The number that I rang was the Caravan Clubs travel agent and not the club itself and on both occasions the person that answered the telephone delt with the change. I was suprised that it cost more for my smaller car and that I had to change ferry time as deck space was not available as I could not go on the same position that was allocated to my M/H.
The first time I telephoned was quite quick, but the second took for ever as high volume of calls, I even hung up twice. Eventually I tried again and got straight through.
I was just pleased that they changed my NON TRANSFERABLE & NO CHANGE ALLOWED TICKET.
I have used the Caravan Club a few times before and I have always been satisfied with the service. You just have to speak as you find!
I did get a little p****d off while trying to get through on the second occasion.
Hope you have a good trip in your new m/h, we are giving ours a shake out and its maiden voyage (with us) this weekend and off to France & possible Germany in about 4 weeks time.

a couple of years ago, i had already booked our crossing and insurance through CC,when we bought another van. This was under 10 years old,so they refunded the extra insurance premium we had paid for our older van
It does quite clearly say that no alterations can be made on certain crosings such as Norfolkline

my uncle (roy pledger) has an artical in this months mmm about germany but it is very much single based and not very inspiring but we should be passing thru the area so maybe worth a look.

I know what you mean about been on hold.
I think I have seen the artical about Germany and it looks pretty good.
We had a minor problem, a water pipe came off but Dave and me managed to dry it up before it could do any damage.
WE have noted that we need more hooks in the bathroom.

you are quite right that it states no changes but it seems they will if possible.
this applies to both cc and norfolkline.
anythings better than north sea ferries. as we live only 50mls away it made sense to sail with them with our car but the cost hull to zeebrugge was £400ish about 5yrs ago. then i found norfolk lines. a 300mls each way trip but the saving buys a lot of euro-diesel and of coarse the driving time to dover (7hr +2hr crossing) is faster than the hull ferry to zeebruge (1hr +12.5hr crossing).
you can cover a lot of french kilometers in 4.5hrs.

I know what you mean about been on hold.
I think I have seen the artical about Germany and it looks pretty good.

we have now got the konti home and started my ritual of adding stuff/fitting my own radio/altering the passenger seat for my short-a**ed wife (non-driver) ect.
it was fitted with a jvc radio/cassette but no cd so i fitted my own, after hacking the wiring to death, only to find a 10disc cd changer hidden under the drivers seat what a bummer serves me right for jumping in feet first.
anyway it will all be ok
we are doing the black forest over to dresden so i'll let you know any good stelplatz we find on our travels if you are going anywhere near there.

I have just fitted 2 swivel seats and I have fitted the swivels the proper way, under the slidders. This is not a quick option as drilling the rivets out and hacksawing is involved.
I think it was worth it as they move more this way.

Sam & Dave have had my door locks as they do not fit this model so I am looking for an alternative way of locking the cab doors.
As you say, you can beef the doors up all you want, but it still leaves the windows.
WE will just have to do our best!

swivel seats would be nice but pointless for us as some clown put a dinnette seatback behind mine and a bulkhead behind hers.

You should be able to get at least one of them at 45 deg and at worst the other at 90deg. Meaning that legs would go into the middle at least.
