Bought some Fenwicks Motorhome Cleaner and Bobby Dazzler after getting advice on here. The motorhome was minging inside and out after my wildlife tour of Leicestershire Norfolk and North Yorks. Missus refused to help clean it and i thought marriage was 50/50. Anyway bought some Fenwicks as id used soapy water before which was ok so i thought. Used the Fenwicks and its amazing. Seems to eat the green crap that had started to grow on the roof again. Cleaned the lot off. Motorhome came up a treat. Used the Bobby Dazzler and now its gleaming. Id definatly recommend it especially for cleaning the green gunge that likes growing on my motorhome roof. Sad about having to store due to the lockdown as autumn and winter is my fav time but hopefully the gunge wont grow so bad.

The Bobby Dazzler is very good. You don't have to use much for a good finish

I always seem to get water marks using that sort of stuff even the fenwicks that is mentioned - but i do live in a hard water area so not sure if that makes a difference - cleaner does work well though but i tend to polish afterwards

Now the roof is clean why not treat it with wet n forget to keep the green stuff away.

There is a truly amazing British owned, British manufacturing company by the name of Bilt Hamber, they produce a range of specialist products that are very widely used by people in the classic car market.

Their polishes are truly brilliant and have won countless awards for their results under test conditions and one of their other products is a surface cleaning guru of a product which goes by the name of Surfex HD https://www.bilthamber.com/car-cleaning-and-degreasing/surfex-hd

Over the past few years I have been using this amazing stuff I have never, as yet, used it neat, instead I use it thinned down to as weak a strength as 1 part Surfex HD to 20 parts water and at this strength it simply gobbles up the green and black muck on the roofs of our vans and at this strength I also use it to clean all the brake dust off the wheels. At a stronger mix of 1 part to 10 water, it is brilliant for cleaning even a filthy engine and at this strength I even use it to clean the induction hob in our kitchen at home, it brings it up like new every single time!

Bilt Hambers rust preventing and curing products are arguably the best on the market according to innumerable tests and I have used them extensively on my little toy and of course they are all made in the UK.

The fenwicks overwintering is good stops the van going green over winter and makes it easier to clean in spring.

Are you going into storage with van to get away from the wife. Or do you know your place and know who wears the trousers in the house 😂 😂 😂

Of to buy some overwintering tomorrow. Thanks again for the advice. The problem with the algae is that where its in strorage is very large but my spot has a lot of shade and ive noticed motorhomes on the sunny side seem fine, those in the shady part are green. If the lockdown lasts a month then ill get out and about in December and keep it washed. Otherwise ill be hoping the Fenwicks ill put on works.

You need a new missus.
Gf always helps with cleaning the van, in fact last week when we did it she had to do most work, as I'm on crutches.
She can be a PITA though, couple of years back she got something in her eye when cleaning the van and I ended up taking her to A&E, not sure if it was the chemicals. 🙁

Ive never found anything that will shift the green muck on our roof. Tried that patio magic stuff which many MH owners recommended, wet and forget etc. It just did nothing. Ive even taken it to a Mh dealer and let them have a go at it. They get the thick of it off but its always left with rock hard spots that could only be shifted with a jack hammer probably. I put it down to the roof on the older Kontiki not being smooth and having a striped planking effect.

If you clean it and put some polish on it would help but no-one really cleans a roof properly - out of sight out of mind generally

Yeah you have not seen this one. Its a job for a landscape gardener not a MH dealer. I wouldnt care but occasionally I park it out on the road and the neighbours over the road in the big house will see it I am sure. I imagine there is a lot of Tutting going on. The other day I dumped a giant Fridge Freezer and an old mattress out there as well for the council to pick up. Its only a matter of time before the Parish council get together and we are run out of the village. :D

I cleaned the roof on my last motorhome with Mr Muscle oven cleaner Barry when all else failed. Came up a treat.

Don't know if it did any harm, but I don't care now as I don't own it anymore!

Every single year twice a year for the last 35+ years of caravan and motorhome ownership I have cleaned and polished the roof of my outfits, and every single time I have washed any of them, I have always cleaned the roof as well.

I used Bobbing Daz on my last caravan and it did not shine...what dobubreacon I did wrong...sure I followed the instructions. Or should I try Bilt stuff you sugest @Millie Master ?

When I got my LT, I suspect the roof had not been cleaned since new (so around 14 years or so).
Used AutoSmart G101 on it. There is very little that G101 will not shift, and it is a safe chemical to use (it is actually food safe and can be used on food prep surfaces as well)
An in-progress shot (I used only G101, microfibre cloths and water to do the entire roof)

those black spots on the roof are probably same as your 'rock hard' spots (they were rock hard - but G101 shifted them (y))

As a fellow Springle owner, my 2 and the spoilt little madam both approve of me using Bilt Hamber, they are also passionate supporters of Spaniel Aid UK..... If you haven't heard of them and are into your Spangles, they are truly amazing and bring a shine to my heart with their passion and love for Spaniels. https://spanielaid.co.uk/

Wildebus, is that g101 wipe on, wipe off stuff or does it require a lot of rubbing. I ask because I have nearly worn through the gel coat on my overcab using slightly abrasive cleaners. I now use cillit bang black mould remover and have yet to notice any issues though it is so bleachy that I would hesitate to recommend anyone else to use it but it certainly brings up the plastic like new, even the textured stuff. Wet and forget or the substitutes do work but do take a long time, though over winter many of us have just that amount of time with the wagon lying idle. Harry
