Fault with garmin 760

Suddenly my Garmin is having problems with "acquiring satellites". The message has just changed to "locating satellites". I've connected it to Garmin Express and updated hoping it would be a fix. It isn't. The only other option it seems is a reset I think, which means I would lose all my POIs and favourites.

Anyone got any other suggestions, please?

You should be able to back them up in Garmin Express, or manually copy them using Windows explorer. If you can't back them up in Express and need more help on using Windows post back here.

I've had it for a couple of years and never had a proble setting it inside. I had it in the van with door open. It's suddenly started working again!
 
I had a similar problem last year when I was travelling through Germany, if I remember correctly it was trying to re-route as I had diverted off the autobahn, it froze and wouldn’t do anything so I switched it off disconnected all the leads then reconnected everything rebooted it and everything came back, it has been ok since.
 
Has the satnav been unused for a while? If so the first fix can be slow.

When in use ephemeris data, as it's called, is downloaded to the satnav from the GPS constellation. This is a slow process. Once this data is stored in the device, the next time it's switched on the anticipated position of the satellites is already known. The time to acquire a position fix is much faster as a result.

And the data is updated in the background so you continue to get a rapid fix on subsequent power ups.

Thanks Chris, it's only a couple of weeks since it was used, if that. My old Tomtom, which hadn't been used for ages didn't have the same problem. It's a strange one!
