I always used to get a film on the inside of my car windscreen 30+ years ago. I put it down to 40 Marlboro a day and a lengthy commute.I concur with the rest of your comment, but not this bit. You get the same thing on the windscreens if very very old cars, where there is no significant leaching. I think it is caused by traffic fumes, tyre dust and chemicals from outside.
However plasticiers are a serious issue. That 'new car smell' is mostly toxins.
