Ex hire

We are very interested in the roller team 696 ex hire from Solent motorhome hire. Has anyone had any experience from buying ex hire?. Thanks again.
Mickey .

I have no idea but thought someone should show an interest in your thread I suppose it's down to price milage and condition as with any purchase.

Ex-hire not any more of a gamble then 2nd hand I suppose, but I guess the hirers may typically be less used to driving a van then a regular owner? so best to check for damage that can occur on "oversized" vehicles (scrapes, bumps, loose bumpers, etc.)

We bought our WildAx as an ex-hire vehicle five years ago. They'd sold it to the hire company as a new conversion, then taken it back in part exchange for a new fleet just under 3 years later. We bought it from the original converter, fully refurbished and reupholstered. Aside from it being relatively high mileage for a nearly 3 year old motorhome (42k miles; I've seen 25 year olds with lower mileage than that!) I can't think of anything (positive or negative) that's relevant to it having been ex-hire.

mechanically the base vehicle is likely to have been serviced to scedule, and used enough to be run in and working properly rather than sat still and deteriorationg for months on end,

as far as the camper bit goes its down to how much wear and tear, again its likely to have been professionally cleaned when necessary. .

same arguments to buying a used van or car .... young high milage ex company versus older privately owned.

thanks for all replies, I'll let you know how I get on.
Mickey.

Mechanically it should be ok as it will have a dealer service history, the main concern for me would be the habitation side because renters don't look after things like a private owner does.I would check the interior well,if it was ok I would have no qualms about buying an ex hire vehicle.

Not so sure about that these days, I would imagine anyone hiring out these vehicles would take a hefty deposit to cover any damage which would encourage most to take extremely good care.

Update, after going to the motorhome show at the NEC I found I didn't really like the rollerteam after all. But, the wife and I fell in love with the chausson728, off to Thailand for the winter and when I get back I'm all out to buy one.

I thought you were me :lol-053:

I went and looked at the Roller team 686 at Solent Mohomes, ex rental. I don't think there is a problem with the ex-rentals, often less than a year old and at least £6K or more off the best new price. as said check out the habitation condition.
I went to the NEC too and the Roller team are a bit cheap looking inside, plastic seats, (though I think they have a better sales name than plastic for them), also the vans' captains seat covers don't wear that well on the rentals I noticed.
The Chasson do make a great variety of layouts but I was put off by the very very white interiors, when I asked the salesman about it he said "that's your only choice" I'm sure my mucky hands and the :dog: would ruin that soon.
And I'll be off to Thailand, but just for a couple weeks, (only a little jealous)

Make sure there is no finance on it ,the hire company where we live have finance on there vans and pay it of when you pay the bill they say it's no problem as the finance is paid off.but should you part with your money with finance still on the van even if it's only a day.as they say buyer beware.

One or Twelve

As I see it Your choice is a one owner van or a van driven by 12 or more. Well the chance's are that at least 50% of the 12 would have been reasonable drivers But the one owner van might have had one not fit to drive a nail.

The update is I'm not going for exhire now, going for a new chausson728, although I do want the 2016 model.

Chausson728

I've gone and done it, I bought the chausson728 and it's a beauty, bad news is, I'm off to Thailand on Sunday and won't be back until march, now I don't want to wish my Thai trip away, but, I've got my new motorhome to pick up when I get back.

I presume you are not going to register it until you return

Our first MH was exhire, we were total MH virgins and thought it was a bargain it was only after we bought it that we realised that all the upholstery was totally shot (dont know how we missed that!) it was a simply built bottom of the range budget MH so was fairly easy to reupholster it ourselves - except for the cab seats they were professionally done - but upholstery fabric isnt cheap.
after that we realised that the foam in the seating/bedding was knackered and then the brakes siezed and the clutch went - all in all it would have been better for us if we had just dug a little deeper at the start and bought a better MH in better condition.

All Im saying is that by all means consider buying one - but take a good look at it, go away come back later and take another good look
