EU licencing for drivers

So , if I understand you correctly , you are saying things were really bad before we joined the EU ?
EEC not EU, before the emperors of Europe got going with their empire bit.
They were awful to start with and progressively got better UNTIL the cabotage opened up and they slaughtered us Whilst I held so many EEC permits things were goo but as the need for them ended the floodgate opened for cheap diesel and round trips with a UK leg in between foreign trucks taking all with them,, We were then paying I think about £3000 for road tax on a max unit they paid sod all , When we went to Gremany we had to pay for the fuel taken in and get a tanksheine coming out to use next time. I would not work in Road Transport ever again, I had more headaches with regulations and permits than most other thing and when the fuel went up over 35p per litre that was it at 6 mpg.

i am a beliver that it will go back to similar to how it used to be before we joined .
but even that as now changed there is no individual country borders ,eu is sort of one community . so it cant exactly go back to how it was .
we can make things as simple as we can if we look at what was or is now.
its like the drivers licence , no problem getting international drivers permit .
still need them if travelling the world . used to be a quid from rac if my memory is correct. i did need the two international ones when touring africa and india .
hardest bit for world travel was carne de passage .
but it can all be sorted . shame the journalists seem to keep making guess,s but making them sound like truths .
think many have no idea about traveling before or even now . its not hard .

No, Alan, it is not hard but in future it will be much more restrictive for us in the EU. In the past, we could skip from one country to another and, in effect, stay in what is now the EU for as long as we liked. Now that it is one huge entity, the three month restriction for non-members will have a big impact on many. I know that those of us who wish to spend more than 3 months are a relatively small group and have no voice but it is nonetheless pretty annoying. I have done no wrong; I have obeyed all the rules; I am proud to call myself European - and yet others want to take my European citizenship away. I may not be able to do anything about it but I can still complain :)

There was some suggestion that in reality the EU could not take away EU citizenship from any one who had been given it of right and there has been some activity on this in the EU parliament but no real progress so far. I hope as the shutters start to fall some one works out a sensible way forward otherwise we will be on 3 month visas before we know it.

I agree. Guy Verhofstadt MEP, the President of the European Parliament, is proposing that we should be able to continue to hold our citizenship if we wish. He has support but I don't think that it is at the front of many minds in the EU, so the more messages of support he gets, the better. I have e-mailed him and I urge anybody who thinks as I do to do the same.

yes i know what your on about .
i say 90day visa is how it will be same as other non eu countries .
yes it was easier before just skip from one country to another now eu is like one country .
the answer will be 45 days eu , then 90 days morocco then 45 days to get out of eu . perhaps back to uk or somewhere else.
you can complain . i complain we ever joined the eec . but all uk govt wanted to join the eec but couldnt right from the begining . folk blame de-gaule , but really it wasnt him . the rules were you had to give up your empires , france had to. he was only making sure uk did as well. most of the o-thers didnt have one to give up.
certainly in the 60,s my family traveled all over the eec and outside it . limmited times in countries but just go to another and keep going . it really only changed with the eu. plus portugal etc joining it all didnt help etc . but i can see 6 months away will be easy. did it for years , only stopped a few years ago as i decided see more of spain and portugal.
actually i think its a growing very large group from uk that want to spend longer away in winter. thats a different problem as so many other countries want to do the same .
but enjoy your 90days soon you could apply for a prolongation they are available so it should be ok for longer.

The only problem with your suggestion re Morocco is that leaving the Single Market will almost certainly be accompanied by the end of EHIC, which will mean private medical insurance for the whole trip. It is difficult to get such insurance for more than three month trips without paying an arm and a leg. I know that you have said before that you don't have medical insurance and I respect your reasons for that but most of us would feel uncomfortable about such a trip without insurance. Never mind, we have got several back-up plans - eg 3 months in the EU prior to Xmas, then home, motorhome in storage and fly off somewhere warm, cheap and welcoming for another 3 months :) . On the other hand, it is looking increasingly unlikely that we will ever actually leave the Single Market in my lifetime :)

i have no choice . lost the use of a lung when a teenager , caught pneumonia .
later got cancer in my throat . hopefully after 6 opps it got rid of.
now the charcot marie tooth i have means more trouble .try a google for it its interesting .
have for years never been able to have travel insurance . all i say is burn me or bury me where ever i die . chuck me in the sea if need be .
morocco is very cheap if you need hospitals , alot of dutch and germans etc go there just to have operations etc . they are way ahead of eu in getting the most newest equipment . even the dentists there are great. my local one was amazed at some work a friend had done . would have been three times the price in uk and possibly not as good .
even their vets have modern gear.

You really are an inspiration to us all, Alan - makes my moans pale into insignificance - and thanks for the info re medical care in Morocco.

PS I absolutely agree about burying me where I fall - I don't ever take out insurance to get repatriation.

a friend a couple years ago while changing a bulb on his truck roof side light fell and had to go to the hospital . he had xrays and then had is arm in plaster . he had to go back after a week .they removed the cast . took more xrays then again plastered his arm. cost 30 quid .
6 weeks later we were in spain . i cut his plaster cast off for free.
but in mrocco they couldnt have been more helpful .
many of the doctors , hospital staff etc speak some engish or they find someone that can.
but honest for years folk have been using morocco for all sorts of hospital treatment .
i first noticed it about 20 yrs ago when one of the germans near us had a few days in agadir hospital having some lumps and things took off his back. it was then several said yes they had things done as well. never crossed my mind before .
