Etiquette for arriving on Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

We've only had.one experience with the Caravan and Misery Club.. And that was only an emergency one night stand. They wouldn't let us onto the site, proper, but allowed an extended hook up, owing to an explosive gas fridge problem,in our 3day old van.
They still charged us full whack however.
Not our kind of people, actually ..

I've known 3 couples that were summertime wardens for the CMC or the C&CC, and that
during the winters roamed around the Med. and exclusively wildcamped, they actively
hated campsites.

Being laid back live and let live types, they didna half have a lot of negative comments
(grumble, grumble) regarding their more regimented complaining breed of summer customers.
But a job, was a job, they got paid, lived rent free and had an allowance for toilet cleaning,
which they gladly passed on to someone else to carry out said task on their behalf.

I'm sure they would have welcomed you, provided you promised to blow the place up.

The best site we ever stayed at was a hideaway site where the lady warden brought out a tray of tea and cakes with orange juice for the kids! She said it was because we travelled far!

That used to be normal with the camping club 55 years ago, to offer tea or coffee to other campers who have just arrived and tired from their journey.

But time and people change.

I was talking to a farmer and he said I can be standing in my own field and I can't stop them coming on.

And that's just the wild campers !

I got a nighthood for been outstanding in my own field.

Now THEY do sound our kind of people.. We don't mind the odd night on a CL, weekend meet or THS, but soon get stir crazy.
We can't do with all these amateurs, their children, pets, visiting friends and family, getting between us and the exit... Noisily enjoying themselves.
Grumble grumble !

Know what you mean.
Would anyone, being of reasonably sound mind and over forty years
of age, haul in to an official regular campsite during the merry time of
mid July to early Sept. anywhere in Europe.

The happiness is just too overwhelming. I know, because I've had such
lapses of sanity in years gone by, and paid for delirious experiences of such
happiness myself.

The inevitable overcrowding, the high pitch price charge for the
privilege of shower queuing, cleaning the bog before use, the
World Cup replays, the barking mutts, the barking owners. The
tv at full volume blast, at times being viewed al fresco at 3:00 in
the morning.

But apart from that little lot, there's really not too much to grumble,
grumble about!

One week a year in august we have the 'family' holiday, we just grin a bear it, the kids love it.

I've found C&MC to be ok on the few occasions that I've used their sites. In contrast CCC have had some fairly officious warders.

I think you've got them the wrong way round!

To some folk, it's paradise.
We've noticed more young families arriving at the weekend meets , big posh tuggers, ditto towcars. They say its cheaper and less aggro than all flying to The Dominican Republic, Mexico,or whatever and spending ages stuck in airports.
Can't blame their logic.

No, definitely found the C&MH club to be less officious. Could be me though, it tends to rattle my cage just going near these establishments.

After spending £60,000 what would you expect them to say? we've
made a small mistake here :lol-061:

Been to many of their sites, you get all types of people vans, campers, and homes there.

As for what they charge, well on average its around £25 for two adults, we have paid more on private sites that are not a patch on theirs.

You always get a good standard, no matter where you go.

But We prefer wild camping, not because its free or cheaper, but we get to wonderful places where there are no sites, noises, or other people.
I enjoy the self sufficiency, and the independence.

When we do go to a site, we look out for possible wild camping places if we ever return.
We have found many great wild camping sites all over the uk which we found after staying at one of their sites.

I have to laugh when they tell us how friendly the sites are on their rag, I have given up saying hello only to be ignored.

Wild camping all the way, but occasionally we put up with staying on a C & M site.

I note an anti C&M attitude on here.
Everyone has an opinion, I try to be both constructive and fair with mine.

I reckon they provide a high standard at a reasonable price.

Recently I paid £15 simply to remain on a motorway car park overnight. (I know stupid)
£18 for two nights on the sea life centre car park in Scarborough.

Yes I much prefer wild camping, but sites have their place, and the C&M sites I have been to have all been excellent, better than most of the private sites who charge roughly the same.

I hate their stupid excuse for a magazine, where no one ever wild camps on their tours, and all of those who have attended their sites think they are wonderful, complimented by perfect staff.

But they do set a minimum standard and others don’t meet even that, and charge roughly the same.
