Has anyone else got the Erbespacher diesel Heating and Hot water system fitted?

We have had this system from purchasing the van, and have found the system to be quite noisy.
On start up it sounds like a jet engine flying in the distance. It is not annoying to us but we are worried that it may be annoying to other people close by.
Given the option, we would happily revert back to the gas heating system, which seems to be the preferred method of new motorhomes.

I was parked next to a van that had this system once ,and moved elsewhere because of the racket it was making, they are supposed to be efficient though ?

Yes, it is efficient, just a bit noisy. It is noisy on start up and heats the water very quickly, and then the unit gets a lot quieter and is almost silent. It is just the start up.

I got the hot air version (D3LC) and use the ones in the work trucks all of the time in winter. Mainly it needs a exhaust silencer on it or failing that box it in with some more padding ;)

Mum and dad had this system fitted to there swift to help the noise problem I fitted them an extra exhaust silencer within 2 inch of the original one helped reduce the noise quiet a bit but mum was still too embarrassed to use the heating after hours and had a halogen heater in winter also if I remember if off site ie no electric hook up it would never fire up if power dropped slightly on 12v side very economical though when wintering in Spain 6 month on a site never used much diesel good luck with it & bless your neighbours ha ha

Hi, I had this system for 10 years in my first Murvi & it is fairly efficient but noisy.

Ebespacher are based just up the road from me at Ringwood & when I called in about the noise I was informed, in 2003, that nothing could be done.

Dezi :pc:

I dont think it is that noisy..we have one on our van...it works very well until a voltage drop...just had mine serviced. It only uses a drop of diesel and apart from battery power it produces great heat and hot water.

We have a Webasto heater in our van, it too was pretty noisy. After getting conflicting advice from different Webasto agents I asked on the Webasto stand at one of the motorhome shows at the NEC. The chap there suggested trying an extra silencer. I got one off Ebay and it made a big difference, well worth doing. It would be a bit quieter still if I fitted an air intake silencer. It's on my 'to do' list...
