England to Ireland by ferry?

One time I crossed Stranraer to Larne, I was so discombobulated after a 12 hour train journey from Reading to the Ferry Port, I ordered a pint of Heavy at 7:00AM
no idea why as I don't tend to drink at 7AM , and I'd never had Heavy in my life before (or since!)

Check the price online a day or two before you want to travel, there can be quite a difference from one crossing to the next.

We like the Liverpool to Dublin P&O route. Liverpool is the shortest UK drive for us so we use less of the rip off UK diesel (cheaper in Ireland), is the lowest priced ferry, and you get free meals and hot drinks during the trip. But it is also the longest crossing and best avoided in rough seas. If you choose this crossing make sure you turn up at the correct docks in Bootle and not the docks for Belfast which are in Birkenhead.

Thanks all, that gives me plenty of options to consider.

Tony
