Had my Fiat Ducato campervan remapped for more speed and more torque and to save fuel, had this done on my last vehicle and it made a great difference however the last time I had it done as a personal favour at mates rates by our company's mechanic (his side line) but this time a company in Macclesfield called "Blue performance" remapped it at a reasonable price. The Ducato is now a different vehicle and drives like a car but still waiting to add up the fuel savings (will post soon) I can better do this on my trip to Germany next month, watch this space ! but up to now I'm very happy with the power and the Umph I'm getting.

Just so I can find this post again. (I'm getting 26mpg & 22mpg towing a Smart car on a trailer - engine as yet unmapped 2.8JTD engine)

Mines a three year old Euro4 boxer PVC . Just back from a month in Scotland and did over 2000 miles. Apart from motorway miles at the beginning (200), all normal roads 36.7 mpg returned. I'm more than happy, but look forward to your findings. Good luck zipnolan.

Has it been remapped ?

my last fiat ducato (2006) was a 2.8 and after remapping I got 34mpg (keeping speed to a maximum 58mph) alas not towing.

"Blue Performance" appears to supply marine products, have you got a link to the correct company?

I'm sure I read somewhere that you either have an engine remapped for power or to save fuel, not both, as getting more power requires using more fuel

remaps

Hi All
I can recommend a man called Vantuner for all transits, he's done both mine and im well pleased, my old tranny has now done 216,000 and goes like a new one , he's on the transit forum fordtransit.org and he's a real helpful guy.

Been thinking about getting my ducato remapped for fuel economy and power be interested to find out how you get on on your trip with fuel savings , was it expensive to have it done?

A slight increase in power means you can either go faster or use a smaller throttle setting, which could mean less fuel used. That's not so much about the remap as the driver is it?

What baffles me with this remapping and chipping engines is why don't the manufacturers do this from new if it is so good to have done , or do they think it is detrimental to the vehicle?

My vehicle handbook for a 2013 Peugeot Boxer PVC states categorically that re-mapping or re-chipping voids Peugeot's 3 year warranty on the vehicle.

In a word "yes"
Re-mapping (increasing power) puts extra stress on various shafts, clutch and gearbox..

I must add that this is not my opinion but the opinion of a mechanic friend of mine who has 50 years experience.

My previous van, an Hymer B694 tag axle had been chipped and I did not know this, it was a year old when I bought it at Stratford show from then Hymer UK Preston , after I had had it for 6 years the Turbo Intercooler radiator split down one of the welds , I was at Bury st Edmunds at the time, I took the van into the Fiat Dealers there to have it fixed, not a Fiat part they said [Intercooler Radiator ] must be a Hymer part, not a Hymer part say Hymer, I tracked it down via S n J at Poole to be a T B Turbo part [ Lancashire ] I contacted them for advice, and asked if I could revert back to a standard Fiat Intercooler radiator [ about a third of the size as the one fitted,] no they said the vehicle has been chipped and the fuel pump upgraded etc to suit the upgrade, so they sent down a new Radiator and it was duly fitted £600 that cost me, I then contacted my Insurance company and told them the saga, send us details of the upgrade and how it effects the engine they said. I contacted T B Turbos and got the relevant paper work, apparently all the upgrade did was to improve the mid range torque , did not increase the speed of the vehicle or improve MPG, the insurance company were happy with this and no extra premium was required .I do not know how the van would have performed without the Turbo upgrade , it went well as it was and was reasonably economical for it's size and weight .I eventually traded the van for the one I have now, I had the Hymer for ten years, So I wonder how many others have vans that have been chipped etc .and are unaware of this fact,if the selling dealer does not know or tell you how would you know ? T B Turbos are no longer trading as I understand it.
