My previous van, an Hymer B694 tag axle had been chipped and I did not know this, it was a year old when I bought it at Stratford show from then Hymer UK Preston , after I had had it for 6 years the Turbo Intercooler radiator split down one of the welds , I was at Bury st Edmunds at the time, I took the van into the Fiat Dealers there to have it fixed, not a Fiat part they said [Intercooler Radiator ] must be a Hymer part, not a Hymer part say Hymer, I tracked it down via S n J at Poole to be a T B Turbo part [ Lancashire ] I contacted them for advice, and asked if I could revert back to a standard Fiat Intercooler radiator [ about a third of the size as the one fitted,] no they said the vehicle has been chipped and the fuel pump upgraded etc to suit the upgrade, so they sent down a new Radiator and it was duly fitted £600 that cost me, I then contacted my
Insurance company and told them the saga, send us details of the upgrade and how it effects the engine they said. I contacted T B Turbos and got the relevant paper work, apparently all the upgrade did was to improve the mid range torque , did not increase the speed of the vehicle or improve MPG, the
insurance company were happy with this and no extra premium was required .I do not know how the van would have performed without the Turbo upgrade , it went well as it was and was reasonably economical for it's size and weight .I eventually traded the van for the one I have now, I had the Hymer for ten years, So I wonder how many others have vans that have been chipped etc .and are unaware of this fact,if the selling dealer does not know or tell you how would you know ? T B Turbos are no longer trading as I understand it.
