That’s the way the system works which is far easier to use reg than VIN number which I guess you don’t know offhand?
Get in touch with DVLA they will sort it. My Crafter was registered as an import which it clearly wasn’t and DVLA sorted no problem.

I have this problem with a number of websites too ...

Of course I know my VIN. But motor factors ask for the registration, not the VIN.

I know that but the system garages used before reg numbers was the VIN they had to enter. Everyone knows their reg number off the cuff but i don’t think many (apart from you of course) know their VIN off the cuff hence the change.

I don't have the VIN written on my cuff, but it's visible through the windscreen and on my V5C inter alia. However, even then it is not always a lot of use. For example, while the front of a coachbuilt is pretty much the standard base vehicle, the rear can be very different, often with totally different lighting, so no use for rear bulbs.
 
Can you not see the chain on those engines if you take the oil filler cap off and look in? You can on my Merc
 
IIRC the x250 Fiat with 2.2 engine has 5 speed box, I do know all the 2.3 have a 6 speed box.
My van was originally registered wrongly as having 2.2 engine, whilst the DVLA have updated records 10 years ago to show it has 2.3, all the parts factors still show parts for 2.2, so I have to manually enter engine size not reg.

Eh? Rear bulbs? If someone needs chassis number or reg to source a bulb there’s something wrong😂😂
 
Have just double checked in case my memory was wrong, and yes the early Fiat x250 2.2 100hp had a 5 speed box, and the 2.3 has always had a 6 speed box. So if it has a 5 speed box it should be chain cam, if it has 6 speed box then it most probably has belt drive.

It’s 5 speed so thanks I’m confident that it’s a chain. 👍

The Fiat 2.3 has a timing belt, it's the 2.2 that is the transit engine with a timing chain. I got a price from a fiat main dealer for my Fiat 2.3, £1463!!! Not happening, I'd rather do it myself
 
So, if you remove the oil filler cap can you see the chain or not? It’s got me interested now lol
 
Depends whether the oil filler is positioned on the rocker cover and if it’s at the front of the rocker cover.
If it is then I suppose you could see the chain.
