I have heard of people chipping or mapping their engines?.
This might be a new or old subject, i dont know as i am a greenhorn to the m/h community.
Some say a chip gives better performance.
some say a chip gives better m.p.g.
we just know it as THE CHIP.

Has anybody got one of these fitted and if so what are your opinins on this. and are they worth the money:confused:

just had my 1998 transit diesel chipped and intercooler fitted , cost a total of £650 now goes like s**t off a stick when towing my smartcar and trailer.i used to be worried when getting to banks but not anymore.also had the Exhaust Gas Recirculation blanked off and
no black smoke now.
1/ more power
2/ more mpg
3/ more bhp

fitted the intercooler myself.

..
2.8 ducato here too

i fitted a unit that plugged into the common rail.. well.. i say i
but it was the supplier really... cus when he told me where it fitted i said ..
"what's a common rail.. i thought beaching had shut them all"

any way i digress...

was prepared to risk the price of a tank of fuel on a go faster, more torque,
bhp and betterer fuel consumption thingy but not 3-500 squid.

as it turns out... it friggin worked:eek:
...they claim 15% improvements but it will probably more like 10%

defo more pull... faster acceleration too..
and the way i drive (fast) mpg is only marginally better... 20/30 miles per tank...all in all i'm chuffed:D
even with the trailer on loaded with bikes she'll pull and overtake more safely.

so there’s another option for you te think about loanbowler

regards
aj

oh... and it transferable too...

Cheers aj,
Loanboller could be right at that price,
will shop around for deal,
Like yourself i like to put my foot down,( 48 year old boy racer ),:D
Opinions looking very positive on the CHIP.

Chris.

I have had several tag axel M/H's either chiped or reset by computer. The results are good and provided that you get a good chip, the difference is well worth it. For example I picked up a new Bessacarr 3 ltr Ducato last march. It has a switch on the key ring which enables it to be switched on and off. So a comparison is easy to do. For the first 150 miles I forgot to switch it on doing mainly motorway driving and returned 18.9 mpg on the onboard computer. The last 70 miles consisted off windy B roads in Wales and a long high haul up a mountain Between Llanidloes and Machynlleth. I thought that's not a good test but I returned 24.9 mpg. Having just been given an offer on an A class that I can't refuse, Iv'e easily uncliped the unit, but can't reach inside the engine compartment to attach it to the new M/H. its doing my head in as I hate waisting fuel, and the new Tag did 22.4 average on the way home. So looking forward to about 27mpg with the new lowline body. Obviously any figures depend on your own driving, but I drive within the speed limits, ( with 9 point on me licence i have too.) The name of my unit a BHP Plus Speedhawk. But I had similar results having the computer upgraded. This can however be wiped out when hooked up by your garage. so I prefer a switchable unit. Hope this is of help. Rgds' Graham.
Ps. Mine was fitted by Total Vehicle Services. Somerset 07973 116205, but they are available on the net.
