We keep as "stock"
Crackers, biscuits & cereal bars
Cous cous
Porridge oats
Ready cooked rice
Tins of Beans...baked & kidney
Tinned tuna & pink salmon
Noodles
Dried pasta tortellini
Pesto
Stir fry sauce...Satay, hoisin
Soya sauce, mayo, mustard plus some odd sachets filched from cafés
Various spices
Lemon juice
Flour ( for bread, pizza bases, pancakes, scones, thickening sauce etc)
Sugar, tea, coffee, cupasoup, hot choc sachets
Powdered milk
Impressed with NZ's 6 cans of deodorant!.
Trouble is as we go to various shops on our journeys I always pick up other "come in useful" extras which rarely are...get eaten on return home!
And thats one days rations.:scared:
MRE actually stands for Meals rejected by Ethiopians.Aside from a tin of
Potatoes
Butter beans
Sweet corn
Kidney beans
Jar of dolmio type sauce
For flinging in the slow cooker...
You cood do worse than a couple MRE (Meal ready to eat) packs for extreme times....
Especially now they do pizza ;-)

I've a siege mentality a bit like Jac & Jeanette.
Couldn't believe how much stuff we unloaded when we sold the old Autosleeper a few weeks back, enough tins & packets to stock a supermarket
When we went to see Banjo Billy a while ago he insisted on giving us a packet of Lux flakes and some Fairy soaps (see pic below).
Almost museum age!!

Apparently after his folks died he discovered cupboards stuffed full of them. Would have taken a lifetime to use them all. War mentality
kicking in... or maybe they thought they'd live forever like we all do! :scared::lol-061:

What's with the sell by date, when I did my national service, 1958 to 1960, we were eating compo rations packed in 1942, they used them as ammo in the ww2 but the jerries fired em back.
In Portugal near Sagres getting my knees brown at the moment.
Enjoy the uk winter.

No. It's a sensible 'be prepared' attitude, Jeanette. Why is it that we pack too much tin ‘stuff’ and too many clothes, is it because those words “just in case” or is that just me??
Name dropper,,, any space left for your Harvey Nicks champers and Harrods caviar???The Murvi has a decent storage area near the cooker that I can just fit a Fortnum & Mason luxury emergency hamper into.
Absolutely essential when a waitrose is unavailable.
Dezi :camper:

yes it all counts, and include the dog, ok pj.Generally speaking we buy local when we’re on a trip, shopping every other day or so, and using farm shops etc when we can. But I keep some emergency rations on board just in case. We’ve actually only used them once, I think, in Scotland when it was foul weather and we had a problem with the van. I’m restocking and wondered what other people keep in reserve? I’m going to pack
Mineral water and ano soft drink
Baked beans
Can of soup
Packet of pasta sauce (always have rice and pasta anyway)
Can of tuna or some meat or other
Emergency dog food; we can go hungry but I don’t think the dog would ever forgive us
We always have tea, coffee etc so that doesn’t count.
Plus of course, a bottle or two....
The trouble of leaving tins in the van is finding one that is long past it’s sell by date ,mind you I like to except a challenge ,I have never thrown anything out yet and am still breathing.
