We had problems with the electrics. Fuse box was getting very very hot. Called our supplier Scotish power, not really interested. Put us on to the national power guys. The fuse box was really old possibly 1950's I think.
Anyway it was too hot to touch ( Mandie burnt her fingers ).
The power guys came out and changed everything for free. Impressed they changed it live!
Mandies brother having heard what we had achieved then managed to get the power guys out to upgrade his meter also for free. Maybe worth considering Nigel.

Is this in a privately owned dwelling? I would be very surprised if I asked for my consumer unit to be change anyone would do it for free,

They changed my master fuse unit here for free from 60ah to 100ah, yes and done live ,chap showed me him holding the pos live,we had a giggle and i said so i wont hold this earthed rad and shake hands.

Oh, the main incomer fuse, not the fuse box (consumer unit)

Feed cable to low ampage or the run to long.

Well no. If the supply cable was too long or too thin that would increase the resistance and make tripping the circuit breaker less likely, Nigel could try adding several extension leads to limit the current.

Of course everything should be installed correctly.
