We have a problem with our electric hotplate, this is a Cookworks double hotplate (not strictly a Motorhome problem but we are relying on it for cooking at the moment as we are on a campsite in Spain)
The problem is it's not working, I've opened it up & checked for with my test meter & there seems to be no power getting through a small inline component (see pic) The numbers on the part are 128ºC D125ZHVX.

Can I run the cooker without it? Can I buy one, I'm in Spain & wouldn't have a clue what to ask for?
OR do I just throw it away & buy another one  Any advice from somebody with electrical knowledge would be appreciated.

sometimes there is a reset button someware at the back of an appliance .a mate of mie used to have a burger van and he has got some chip fryers they have the reset button on if not it might be the time to retire the thing and get a new one .i dont think parts are available .

I would get rid of it and get yourself a gas hob with 2 burners. Buy a couple of gas cannisters as extras. You can buy these at any Hardware store in Spain (Ferreteria) spelling could be wrong. They are flat with a cover lid. Approx: 18 ins long x 9 ins wide x 4 ins high. Should cost around €38. Spare cannisters are extra. Forget the exact price. You can also get a similar type to use of your own Gas bottles. You may need a Gas pipe connection from hob to your bottle. I have one of these bought in England as an emergency if my cooker fails in the MH. Hope this helps.

Thermal Fuse

Ed this is a thermal fuse designed to blow at 128 deg a new fuse from Maplins is a RA15R at 82p so the hotplate is well worth saving.
When you replace the thermal link do so with the crimp part of a crimp connector do not use solder as this melts also.
If you try in Spain ask for a Thermal Link / Fuse 128 deg the next below is a 110 deg but the next one up is 152 deg how long are you there for

Thanks Alf, we are on this site for another 26 days, will see if I can get one anywhere here. I took a chance to just connect it without the thermal fuse (now I know what to call it ) & it worked. Is there any problem in using it (with care) as it is without the thermal fuse? We are cooking in the awning & only have it on when we are there. We also have an electric pizza pan we bought over here a few years ago so we are using that when we can.

Mandrake there is no reset button, it is just a double hotplate nothing sophisticated.

David, no point in buying a gas hob, we have a cadac we can use & buying cannisters works out expensive, we are paying fora 10amp 6kw per day electric so buying gas is a non starter.

Thermal Fuse

Ed look at your email not PM ......comments are not for forum posting I can get one and post if there is difficulty getting one when you are back home

Alf

Thanks Alf, just read email. :) Internet connection is sometimes a bit dodgy (not acceptable when I'm paying for it) Will try to see if we can get a new thermal fuse if we can find somewhere where they might sell them but might have to wait until we get home.

Fusible te'rmico

You need a Fusible Termico.Try etronic.es
Used in tumble dryers/washer dryers and many heat related appliances.

Thanks Rickboy, know what to ask for now a 'Fusible te'rmico'.
Just got another cooking related problem  my Cadac bbq has decided it's not working (probably in sympathy with the electric hotplate ) Did a couple of burgers fine then when we put it back on it isn't getting that hot. Suspect it is the regulator as there isn't much else I can see that could go wrong (the gas cylinder is full) doubt if I could buy a regulator over here in Spain to fit a calor bottle unless anybody knows different  Got one on the bbq at home considering getting my daughter to take it off & send it to us .

Regulator

Your regulator may be blocked with oil.Two thing you can try, hairdryer to warm it up and shift the oil or soak it in some warm soapy water then give it a shake and leave to dry or help with the hairdryer..
Good luck.

On 2nd thoughts make that hot water and give it a couple of hours to loosen the oil residue in the regulator.

Might try your tips with the regulator if nothing else works after all not much to lose as something isn't working (wife got some nice steak for my birthday {now officially a pensioner today} so we were going to do it on the griddle ).

I was looking at my cadac (its the small safari chef model) I might try to see if I can just make sure there isn't a problem with the valve not opening properly. I was also going to ask around & see if anybody either has a regulator I can try or a similar cadac I can try on the end of my regulator/hose. Tried giving it a good shaking to see if there was anything such as oil etc. getting in but didn't seem to be anything. Keep the regulator hose in the gas locker with the ends blocked off to stop any muck getting in.

If there is some oil getting into the regulator would I see any trace in the pipe? When you say about using warm water do you leave the regulator immersed in the water for a couple of hours? Is it easy enough to dry it out afterwards?

Regulator

Leave to soak in hot soapy water. The oil will be a very small amout of yellowish goo that leaches out of the rubber hose and other rubbish from the lpg.The hole inside the regulator that blocks is tiny so does't need much to restrict it.Any moisture left inside the regulator after cleaning will soon disperse with use if the weather is not too cold.
Give it a try.

Think I might have got it working, found that we had a slightly larger jet (fitted one was 72 & the other that came with it was 89) didn't look blocked but maybe something was in it but came out when I took it apart. Also gave the regulator a good shake & knock. Result seems to be a reasonably good flame so keep the idea of soapy water on the back burner for next time if all else fails.

BTW weather not too cold so wouldn't be a preoblem drying the regulator out, in fact we are sitting in the shade as it's so hot  (temperature sensor I fitted under the van is showing 25ºC) going to take a walk down to the beach in a bit (about 150 yds) after we try out the whisky flavour ice cream ;) . We were going to go for a bike ride but it's just too hot
