Renault Trafic 115 DCI 2 Litre. Semi auto.

Coming up to it's 7th birthday, 42,000 miles.

Starts a stall like shudder at low revs, particularly when parking or when dropping below 58 mph, 2000 RPM IN 6th gear. ( just when we need some oomph, to overtake trucks )
When low speed manoeuvring, we can hear the clutch rapidly clicking..

Is this due to the engine loosening up ?
Would a remap to provide more torque help ?

What's do the experts think?

Someone with a similar model recommended a firm called Boosters.
But he does less than 3,000 miles per year and his engine is probably not run in yet, but wanted more torque and fewer gear changes.

I would investigate the shudder first as a remap could make it worse.
Not an expert though.

I’ve re mapped a few vehicles but I would want the vehicle running fine first otherwise your always thinking has the remap done this.

At that mileage Paul, it's a bit early for a dual mass flywheel.

But I would get an opinion on it.

I'd have thought at 58 mph you'd really need to be in 4th or 5th gear to accelerate to over take any thing

I’m heading towards the flywheel?get a test done ASAP if flywheel is faulty a breks up I’ve seen boxes ruined ,I’m not trying to scare you either ,it may be nought to do with the flywheel
Good luck anyways

What exactly are you meaning here by flywheel, is the Renault not using electronic clutch change to make it semi auto?

Yes it's fully automatic.

Does that mean no flywheel ?

My lady pilot never could understand gear changing, bless her.
Now I have to remind her to kick down ,when going at those speeds.
She then complains about the sudden acceleration...

The rattling when manoeuvring can't be cured by that, though.

I've got into contact with a Renault Specialist ... Autostop Service Centre, in Warrington... . After the Bank holiday.
Anything known about them.
Thanks everyone for your interest .

I don't know of Autostop, Sowerbys in Austerfield Doncaster are were independent Renault specialists.

FWIW I think you are approaching this the correct way sort issues out which may negate re mapping.....or at least you can consider a remap without prejudice to any niggling issues

It's foooooooooooked, scrap it and buy a new one you tight old bugger :scared::egg::lol-049::lol-049:

I had two automatics and went back to a twin tub.:lol-053:
Are you sure its not the beer bottles in the cellar making the problem.

Thanks Trev.
It's good to know that there are always experts on hand, to help with every problem.
I'll try emptying the beer bottles.

Paul, give Ian a ring on 07850252566, he is our mechanic, one man band and is old school. Based in Lymm.

We are currently in County Durham heading to Scotland for a month. Give us a bell when you can.

We had a similar problem when overtaking lorries on hills, half way past it would lose power and we would have to pull back in.
My garage replaced the EGR (exhaust gas recycling valve) and now it, sorry She, pulls like a train again.
Its a relatively easy job to do, only two bolts, but best left to a garage because it is difficult to access.
Just to explain, if the EGR is coked up, it cannot close efficiently, and therefore the engine cannot build up pressure. The valve can be cleaned but I preferred to have a new one fitted.
Hope this helps Paul.

Regards Rog

Cheers Ral.
We're wading through 7 months back mail and will be hanging round Altrincham for at least a week.
I thought today would be a bad day to phone around, but will ring Ian.
One thing I've confirmed is that the van has a dual mass flywheel.

Safe journey , give us a text when your ready for a natter.

Dont thing auto boxes are fitted with duel mass f/wheel,it would have a torque converter ,unless its a semi auto shift.

Thanks Rog,
Another voice of sanity.

Why didn't I Think of the EGR ?
We were so engrossed in nursing the van back to Blighty, through , " Interesting country", that we forgot that there ar other probable causes.

I'll see what Ral's Ian can do.

Yes, Trev.
It's a semi auto shift.

I had my doubts about flywheels, as did Rob and The Laird.
So I ended up trying to order one against the van Reg number .
Only one firm has responded in 24 hours, so I'm taking that as there's no flywheel.
Hope I've got it right?
