DVLA and SPECSAVERS

My C1/D1 driving licence is due to expire at the end of September and I am awaiting my renewal forms arriving before next week.

Yesterday I had a letter from DVLA but not the expected one.

As I have only very recently had an eye test at my local opticians in February and my eyesight was okay, I found this very unusual so I rang DVLA who hinted there may have been a problem with their peripheral vision testing machine, not my eyesight, and I would have to go to have a re-test. She said she would post the renewal forms to me immediately so I could possibly get the relevant section signed by the optician, if they agree. We will see.

Three years to get to this stage?

Three years, if it had been a private business they'd be out of business working at that speed. They're quick enough to issue fines if you haven't sorned your vehicle etc though.

Seems a bit odd that dvla are sending you to spec savers in preference of other opticians. My Doctor has always done my eye,s when he does the medical every year now

I think the dvla have a contract with specsavers to do the eye test, if they require them to be done, not that specsavers is a quality optician.

My neighbour had to have an eye test when she applied for her licence back after losing it, she had just had new glasses from a local opticians but DVLA said it makes no difference and she has to go to Specsavers, I can't help thinking a few palms were greased

Jenny has to have diabetic retinopathy checks. These were done by an independent,local optician.
Now she can only have them done by Specsavers.
Could be good news for the taxpayer?
Tough on the independent guys.. But that's life.
Specsavers seem extremely sales orientated and easily relieved Jenny of her Pensioner's mite.. 60% charm, 30% guilt trip at leaving the shop without buying something, 10% scare tactics.
She now has a lovely pair of prescription sunglasses, that she'll rarely use. No good for driving, redundant in the UK, most of the time.
She felt guilty about ordering the cheapest specs on offer.

She can read, quite easily, with my pound shop pair. If she cant quickly locate hers.

My, lips, of course, are sealed...

i just paid £90 for 2 pairs of glasses at Asda optical services... both with different lenses. Excellent service. Not as fast as the high street optical-robber-mobs, but their pricing policy is VERY simple and straightforward - and they are open 12 hours a day.

Funnily enough, I've not long got back from specsavers. If I had a fiver for every time they asked if I wanted to start the get some glasses process going, despite me saying I wouldn't because of work/shooting...

I think I'd have enough for, er, glasses. lol.

Specsavers are very pushy, trying to bump up the cost and extras,
