Well yesterday was our annual MoT fail day, why??? blessed tin worm again.... Why oh why is this blasted creature attracted to our van, it seems that every year we have to spend 2 to 300 pounds getting things glued back together, still it's cheaper than a new 'van

If after welding repairs and may i say from new all vans/cars require coated about every 3/4 years with a rust protector.
This is sprayed into floor box sections sills doors inner guards a posts etc.
You can extend your old vans life by getting someone with a parfin gun small compressor using waxol with a rust preventer mixed in or other preventer sprays, other than that just keep removing bad bits and weld in new metal, been there had the ticket.

I feel your pain Peter. The old van was getting harder and harder to keep on the road in its last five or six years (1996 vintage). Every MOT was a challenge which usually left me hunting for parts myself. It must be possible to keep these oldies on the road though as there are plenty of vintage campers about.

2007 onwards fiat's are pretty good for not rusting.pre that some aren't so good.
It ain't much good welding a patch over a patch. You are better off welding a new chassis section in if you plan to keep the vehicle.
For a crack you need a plate one and a half times bigger than the length of the crack.
Due to age ( my age) I no longer can lie under vehicles for any length of time to repair them or I'd help with the welding.
Getting old is a bugger.

Horrible stuff is the tin worm. Me personally, welding done using oxy-acetylene process. O&A give the welder far more control. Less metal prep require, and there is a God, no scurrying around looking for a decent area close to repair area to find an earth return point, which is required if using MAGS process. I would never consider gas less cored wires, waste of time.

I should add, Oxy-Acetylene is not for the DIYer whom does not have training using O&A process.

If you can get another year for £300 then I would go for it, you don't know how much longer you will be able to travel so every year is a bonus
I'd offer the garage £500 if it included new swivel joints for my knees and hips ... Van and driver patched up for a couple of years ... :ROFLMAO:
