ducato jdt 2.8 turbo... 2002

as some of you may have worked out.... i don't do spanners or any form of mechannanicks...

but i have a niggling concern that some of you with a soupspoon more knowledge than me may be able to help with...

does this engine have a cam chain or a cam belt... if a belt when should it be changed (mileage)

i fank you in advance of some enlightening replies...

Hi, My Murvi was on a 1999 2.8 turbo diesel Fiat. It has a cam belt. I always change at 50,000 ( I think it should be 60,000 ) and had no problems. Still going strong when I sold it with 116,000 on the clock.

i got a 2000 fiat 2.8 idtd turbo & it got belts.
around 50,000 mls seems ok however i've been told they need to be done after 5 years even if you dont do the mileage.
i'd say check it out with fiat.

50-60 ooo km max5 years is correct. It is recommended to change also
the V - belts for the water pump and generator and the corresponding roll.

Hi AJ,

If it hasnt had a cam belt change since it was new as it is now seven years old I would suggest you get it changed on the next service.

Change the alternator belt as well as they have been known to snap and get stuck in the works and make the cam belt jump a notch.

Better safe than sorry!

I too am allergic to spanners, I too have a 2.8 Fiat - have to say I would always play safe & change it before it snaps- hope that helps

There is a milage limit, however this never applies to Motorhomes as we never get anywhere near to this limit
The manufacturers recommend the mileage limit or every 5 years
I know!! costly but cheaper than the alternative
My recommendation is get it done asap

Fiat Ducato Cam Belt.

Local Fiat Dealer informed me that cam belt change on my Ducato 2.8idTD is 70000 miles or six years. Had mine changed on purchase at 23000 and 4yrs and have had it carried out again last week at 39000 miles and 8yrs (4 yr interval).
The belt change complete with a full service came to £360. money well spent I feel especially when you consider the damage that can be caused if it breaks.
