My reversing light has packed up, together with the reversing camera that I had wired up to it. Everthing was fine until I pressure washed the van, and then found it wasn't working when I went to reverse in the drive. Assumed it was just a bulb, but after replacing it, nothing changed.
Does anyone know where the fuse would be for this please, before I start crawling around, following the wiring?

I would check the earth first, probably disturbed it with the pressure.

There are 3 fuseboxes it should definitely in either of the 2 in the cab area.

Did you wash underneath the van? You may have knocked the plug off of the gearbox?

If the fuse is OK I would check the switch on the gearbox just in case it was a coincidence that you noticed after jet washing

Thanks guys, have just been reading an almost identical fault on the motorhome fun forum, and it seems that the switch on the gearbox is quite often the culprit.
I didn't wash underneath the van, I think that may just have been coincidence. Bit clueless about this sort of thing, what is the best way to access the switch on the gearbox. ie from underneath or is there a better way?

On mine which is an earlier model it is at the back of the gearbox so you have to get to it from underneath, it will look something like this, you can see the switch at the back

To test put a bit of wire into /across the cable harness plug when switched on ,if lights come on then the sender switch is faulty.

Reverse switch

Once switch is out spray it with brake spray or wd 40 push it in and out a few times and sometimes this saves buying a new one.if you want to test prior to removal bridge out the wires that plug into switch and the reverse lights should stay on and camera will be activated,this would confirm switch failure,good luck

Sorry cannot assist with your problem but I'm sure I've read that it's not good practice power washing motorhomes ?
I assume it's to prevent water damage to sealants and possible water ingress.
I stand to be corrected if it's not the case.

Absolutely correct and good advice but a jet washer is adjustable, if you have it on the finest spray so it is more like a jet and point it at the joints it can cause problems, but if you adjust it to a wide spray so that the pressure is not as high then it is safe to use anywhere on the motorhome and can be a useful tool

Went underneath and found the switch on the gearbox, took it off and sprayed with contact cleaner and then pushed it up and down a few times and guess what....nothing!
Won't have any chance tomorrow, but will try your tips on Friday, with the help of a neighbour, who is a bit more clued up than me.

Would the 6v be the reading of the CANBUS which is around 5v?

On my 2.8JTD the reversing switch is hidden on the top of the gearbox and difficult to access and impossible to knock off with a pressure jet. To access the switch you need to move aside the air filter and hoses, remove the clutch slave cylinder and then reach way down with a 20 0r 22mm socket on a long extension.

The speedo sensor is on the bottom of the gearbox and this may be what you have found. It has three connections as distinct to the two for the reversing light switch.

If you persevere you can get to the switch and not that expensive to replace

Very useful bit of info, thanks a lot. You are spot on, the switch I found had three pins, so obviously way off course. I will try again on Friday, and report back

Looking at that photo you posted tezza33, the switch appears to have three pins, are you sure that what we are looking at is the Reversing switch and not the speed sensor?
Just been underneath mine again, and I cannot see or feel any other cables going into the gearbox apart from the one with three pins which apparently is not the right one.

The reverse light switch will only have two wires Rog, if you look at my post I said 'like this' because they look the same so sorry if that caused some confusion, I cannot find a picture of a switch in position but if you look at this quote from the Fiat Forum it should give you an idea

I cannot find the reverse light switch on this gearbox.

should be on top (green connector......or is it blue) but its kinda hidden by a pipe but its there!

I think i have found it.
The plug is grey with 2 wires.
The trouble i have now is removing it. I can hardly see it.
Any ideas how i release the connector? (one handed)

grey..could well be,its face up on top of box.

pull tag up on side of commector & pull off, remove switch with 22mm socket(from memory....so you better check!)

Not only was it behind a large diameter air pipe but it was also very well hidden behind the clutch operating mechanism (Black plastic leading to a brassy coloured rod that operated the clutch lever on top of gearbox)
I found it was easier to remove the two stiffnuts that held the clutch operating linkeage to a large silver coloured fitting and then move the linkeage aside so i had full view of the switch.
To remove the plug i did need to pull the tag on the one side of the plug and then pull plug upwards. However due to fat fingers and very little access i did wedge a small watchmakers screwdriver under the tag and then prise plug off by levering gently on the plug body.
The switch then came out with a 22mm long reach socket.
