Just a reminder mainly for any newbies, to drain down your boiler and water system and empty your water tanks, given the cold weather.

A new boiler or burst pipe could be a very expensive business to sort.

Draining my boiler today, hopefully not too late.
I only have the electric one in the loo for hand washing etc, main van i just boil a big kettle for hot water, dont see the point in having a boiler, there is one but never connected it up to gas or electric, I may remove it and free up the space.

I'm thinking I may be too late now. It's colder than was forecast this morning and a heavy frost, the car is showing a temperature of -2°.

Still, I'll soon find out!

Same here Rob white over o_O motorhome and car both showing -4C, the local weather girl on the news last night said 0C possibly -1C 🤬

Just switched on my heating and water boiler and both working fine at the moment. I'll let it warm up a little and then drain the system and inspect the pipework/pump/boiler for any signs of leakage.

We drained everything down when we came back from Scotland end of October. We'll be filling everything up tomorrow then off to Sharpness Dockers Club for the gathering there.
I'm not looking forward to the cold. It's 18.2 C in my office and I'm wearing gloves because of Reynauds. We've got posh gas central heating in the van but we're not going to put it on all night. Sleeping bag full of hot water bottles and dogs for me! (No room for Phill.)

Julie's got Reynauds Sharon. Her hands go blue in the middle of Summer!

Went to drain the system by turning on the taps and a trickle of warm water came out and then stopped, I then realised that the pump wasn't making a noise and a quick check showed that it wasn't operating. Checked the fuses etc and nothing obvious. Much head scratching.

I then remembered. When we put in the water system the lsat thing we did was to put a switch for the pump on the front of the sink unit so I could switch it on/off whenever we used the taps and also switch it off last thing at night (Doh!). 😄

So a quick flick of the switch and the taps burst into life. Piping hot water from the boiler and a check round revealed no leaks anywhere and everything hunky dory. Taps now left open all round - sorted.

My fingertips can sometimes and my nails hurt. In the last couple of days I've noticed my fingers going all pruny and now it's painful too.
Gives me something else to moan about. I hope you're keeping Julie nicely wrapped up for the next few months.

Yeah, I'll lend her my heated motorcycle gloves Sharon. 😊

I’ve also got Reynards and its really painful so you’ve got my sympathy

Use a water-resistant vacuum cleaner and vacuum out the water system. All water taps open to avoid frost damage on taps.
